You might want to consider booking a room for only the first couple of nights. Then you can go around, check out places, see which appeals to you the most, and also bargain on the room rate. When you walk into a hotel with no bags(and no taxi driver), you would be surprised at how reasonable they sometimes get. Especially if you tell them you plan to stay a week or two.
As for getting ripped off. It is quite rare, but can happen. Not something to be paranoid about, since most of the girls are honest as the day is long when it comes to keeping their hands off of your belongings. Just the same, best to keep money in the safe, and other items of value locked in your suitcase. When the girl is taking a shower, you can always toss your camera, your Rolex(as if), your blackberry, and your big wad of cash in your suitcase, leaving enough in your pocket for breakfast and her payday in the morning. Put the suitcase in the closet.
Those are reasonable precautions. Of course, you are always safest with a girl from a beer bar or gogo bar, and that is where you'll want to start the first few nights. But, once you are feeling comfortable with the scene, you are probably going to end up, at least, sometimes, picking up a FL in the discos, as there are a lot of hotties there, and there will be nights when you see one you can't resist. Ask her what bar she works in, as many do work in the bars before heading to the disco. Some do not work in bars, however. Take the precautions mentioned above, and you will be OK. Also, good to have her turn in her ID at the desk. If you hook up with one you really like, after the first couple nights, you can loosen up a bit.
If you are inexperienced, best not to pick up a girl on the street. Never pick up a LB on the street. Never pick up a girl on the street in BKK, unless you are experienced and she is standing in front of NEP or across the street in the parking lot.
One other thing. If a girl ever asks for payment in advance, be polite, and ask her to leave. It is just not done that way, so if she does that it means that she is up to no good, IMHO.
As far as sex, if they are not that into you, and don't particularly care whether they get a second "date," then you'll get one go-round when you get back from the bar, and in the morning, they will be a little cool, shower, and dress and get out of there ASAP. Also, if they are not getting good vibes from you and figure that you are a butterfly and that you won't be giving them a second date, they might try to scoot without an AM roll in the hay. If they are into you and vice versa, you will get laid when you get back to the hotel, laid if you wake up horny a few hours later, and laid again before you go out for breakfast or lunch. Once at night and once in the AM means that they would like it if you came and saw them again that night, even if they are not totally into you or vice versa. That's kind of the "I'm OK, you're OK level."
Of course, not everyone wants laid more than once a night, anyhow, and that's OK, too.
