Also, I think it is good not to live so close to the action (no easy access for univited visitors!) if planning to stay long-term....

I lived nearby Lakeview apartments and I know some friends who stayed there. Its rather nice and the price is pretty good. 5 - 10 minutes to Patong, couple of minutes to Tesco and Big C.
