Airpot taxis
The very first time I went to Phuket, it was a spur of the moment thing, so I hadn't made any reservations for a place to stay. Once I got to the airport I decided to take a taxi to Patong Beach. I knew the name of several hotels, but I made the mistake of telling the driver I didn't have reservations. So, on the way he stopped at some travel agency. He tried to tell me that all the hotels in Patong Beach were full, and that I should book a room through this travel agency if I wanted a place to stay. I finally agreed to pay for a couple of nights in advace just to get out of there. As it turned out, the hotel was great, but still, it seemed like a scam. I guess the thing to do is arrange for a pick up in advance, from your hotel.
