It's worth noting that the JW Marriott Phuket is a fantastic hotel, having stayed in great hotels all over the world i would rate it as one of the best.
It is absolutely not suited to someone on his(or her) own and is very much full of couples and families.
There were some great deals available last year which meant it was around $50/night but these seem to have dried up recently.
