I have used Ad-aware, Spybot, and a couple of others. The one I have now which is a free download with FREE UPDATES is called AntiVir. It is the best.
It is actually better than Bulldog, which is very good, and which I had a free 3 month trial on, and Bulldog charges $39.95 if you want the updates after your trial period is over. Antivir got rid of those nasty homepage hijackers which every other program I used could not completely 100% eradicate!! I would have bought the Bulldog if it had been able to get rid of that startpage hijacker. Spybot would get rid of it, but it would be back the next time as the virus made it impossible to reset the homepage permanently. Antivir has done the job, and for free!!!
