Nicke has a good point and he should know as he's owned Mai thai bar for quite some time now.
They can lose face and yes there is a difference between walking past and saying no thanks......to.... sitting down in a bar then giving a girl the brush off.
These girls often make friends in the bar with the other girls, almost like sisters and sometimes have rivals in their bar too, If they approach you, then you refuse to buy a drink or show interest then they can look stupid in front of their friends.
It would be taken that you don't think she is attractive etc..
Some are usually preoccupied with watching the street and the general goings on or chatting with friends so don't take it as an insult. We have probably all been ignored at some point regardless of our looks.
I would say that high season had a big part to play he here..more farang to choose from = girls becoming more choosy, there is nothing these girls like more than to catch the kind of guy that really appeals to them and then show off to their friends.
I would think these same stunners will have a different attitude towards you come September. Don't forget that stunners can quite often have sponsors sending monthly payments so they can pick and choose to go, if they want & when they want. If they don't like you, they could raise the price a little but I would not expect this to hapen so much in low season.
Finally..Bangkok and Phuket..IMHO ..I do find the girls in both of these places can be a little picky, pattaya not so picky OTOH, but each place has it's own merits.
I'll say something thats been said many times b4 ...a very nice warm smile to the girl will usually attract the attention of even the coolest of ice maidens.
