After all those years the Thai officials finally wake up. Piracy in Mallaca Straits is well known by seafarers and shipowners. Problem is Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore want to handle it alone without interference from other states. Up till now, everything went (relatively) well. Some sailors killed, but who cares ashore. If a loaden tanker had run aground and caused a major oilpollution because the crew was locked up when the pirates left the vessel, indignation would have been a lot bigger.
