This Will Be My First Time to Chiang Mai

I just booked my hotel through latestays.com. I would have used the link through here since that worked well for me in the past, but they were about 500 baht cheaper. Hopefully I wont regret it. The hotel is called Tamarind Village, I saw that it came highly recommended on the hotel listings on r24.org. So for 1500 baht I thought I'd give it a try, especially since it is a smaller hotel, which I prefer.

It says this hotel is located in the old district of the city. I am hoping that it will be easy to get around from there to visit some sites and to go shopping; can anyone comment on that?

I will be there for 4 days/ 3 nights, although I'm not much of a city person. Is there a tour outside the city or some place that I should go that someone would say is a must see for a 1 day trip?
