Glad the approach works for you. My experience indicates the custom officials take joy in boosting their ego, at the expense of the person they are searching.
In reply to a comment on their sex drive, I believe they could, in return, use that as a pretext, to pull one's laptop aside (if one has one) and subject it to a detailed search, looking for every inappropriate image or other material they can find. The same goes of the Compact Flash/SD/Memory Stick's, etc ... that one has. If they find what they assess to be inappropriate images (and they probably have a different definition than what you or I might have), they may then start asking for signed releases forms for the photo's of the lady in-question, etc ...
Each to their own, in terms of the approach that works with customs. But for me, the best thing is to say nothing that could "egg" them on (such as asking about their sex drive), and instead offer them nothing for them to sink their teeth into (so that they have nothing to justify themselves to their boss, if ever questioned why they are being so excessively detailed in their search).
