Renting an "extra" room by the hour (or by the day) is not unusual when its not appropriate (or when its too expensive) to bring someone back to one's "primary" hotel room. With respect to terminology, you may have read posts about "short time" hotels. Often those who encounter such "social barriers" will resort to an ST (short time) hotel.
