This is mine and my partner's first time to Thailand. We're doing 4 nights in Bangkok then 8 nights on Phuket. I think whatever happens we'll enjoy it. My only real concern is the weather. We should have booked next month, but it's all done and dusted now for us arriving this Sunday.

Do people still sun themselves on the beach during the day when it's cloudy or thunderstormy. I've checked the weather for the last month and it's never really changed from 'chance of thunderstorms'. What does this exactly mean in Thai terms, and is there any chance of picking up a suntan. We're not really beach-type people, so even if the weather is crap we'll still enjoy ourselves. It's just that the photos we've seen look stunning with the clear blue skies.

Also, is the sea safe to paddle around in. I've read a guide that mentions stingrays and other things to watch out for.

We're staying at the Peach-Hill Hotel, near Kata and Karon beaches. Any advice for either Bangkok or Phuket would be appreciated.

Many thanks.

hi,peach hill is ok but well out the way of patong i stayed there in may and withing 24 hours had moved hotels to patong to be near the action.peach hill is in kata that was very very quiet and dead at night.that said it has a lovely beach for in the day.i was in patong in may as said and got back from my 2nd trip at end of september and yes the weather was crap.i hardly got a tan at all and i was there 18 days.i saw 2 days of decent sunshine.i not sure how good the weather is at present but i heard it is pretty bad.the sea is pretty safe to swim in unless red flags are up,in which case watch out for the under currents.as for nasty stuff swimming around in the sea,i never had any probs or even seen anything worrying.if you and your mates are looking for the bar girl action then you are better off not staying at peach hill,it is a lovely hotel but very un guest friendly, they charge 1000-1500 baht for every time you bring a bar girl backand they dont like the bar girls hanging ariound the pool area during the daytime.i couldnt be ****d and moved to c and n in patong.saved me a fortune in taxis and joiner fees.the tuk tuk ride is about 15 mins to patong which is where you will be every night.any other info i am sure me or others will assist.have a good time and remember to share the fotos when you get back
steve
