It was very very close to the graphic novels of the same name.. Even down to single color additions to frames and some of the shots (down to timing the use of negative) nearly mirror particular frames from those pages.. So for fans of the (gphc) novels this was a treat and unusual for cinema to take such a risky plot..
Part of the whole point of Sin City is the factor that in such an environment there are no good guys.. Marvin is a wreck of a thug, yet even inside this brutal man there is hope (and desire) of redemption.. The actions of Goldie brought out this small seed of goodness (even if the only thing he is capable of is revenge) in him.. Also to say 'without the hubris' almost each and every charachter gets payback (though its clear that some sins are day to day sins and some are outrgight 'bad' characters)..
And as to the Jessica Alba.. The PR girl that was in 25th hour (leader of the ******s, cant remember her name now) floats my boat far far more then Miss Alba !!!!
Not all the elements 'worked' because they were engineering sequences to mirror the layout and framing of certain shots from the books.. The 'Marvin' scenes seemed to come through the best with yellow eye and the ******s working the least IMHO..
Its definately a 'style' over story film near arthouse if it wasnt for the pulp violence.. Personally I wish more of Hollwierds productions were in this vien than the formulaic blow stuff up architypal hero / baddie nonsense..
