LIL,

Sad to say, but how long you have lived there, you will always be a "farang"!

We go to Phuket, to escape some burden of every day life. It looks like Disney-land at first glance, but it isn't!

Simply, because it is not Disneyworld for the Thais! To give us joy, and spend our money, their, sometimes hard life goes on! We get a lot of contact with people, who are in the tourist-industry. Some contacts for them are good, a lot of them are bad! Not every farang behave well!

But if you get the symphathy of these people, because you understand them more, because you are behaving in a way they understand better, you do get a lot of symphaty from them. They have a little bit adapted to our farang way of thinking...

But...not everybody working in Phuket have nice contacts with some farangs!
A lot of Thais see us, coming to their island behaving like fools! Getting drunk, being rude, making *****s from Thai girls and abusing them!

In this every day wilderness, a farang girl being killed by a drunk driver, is not so bad as the oposite way. The people you are in contact with on such a dramatic occasion, are not the ones to give you support, they have seen quite some other things...

On the other hand, non officials, simple people with a good heart, can give you nevertheless a lot of warmth and symphaty. This has been proven by the recent tsunami -drama, where locals, who lost everything , were still feeding and helping the tourists!

In this case, the officials, care more about their "own boy", then the horrible tragedy happened to this nice girl!

You choose to live in Los, where live can be good tou you. This attitude, and
the difficulty in general, when something goes wrong in a country with a very different culture, way of thinking, is the reason I choose NOT to move to Asia!

But then even at home you have insensitive people, the only difference is that comunication is a bit easier, and you can always defend yourself better in your own language.

My thoughts are with the family all the time, although I met G, only once.
It is hard to cope with, a tragedy like that, and at least, let us all stand together as one behind them!
