Question Liquor - Customs Declaration

I see on the Thai Customs Website that visitors are allowed to bring one liter of liquor into Thailand under a personal exclusion. Would I be allowed to bring in a couple additional bottles if I declare them at Customs and pay appropriate duties? Any idea what the duties would be if I can declare a couple additional bottles?

I have an expat friend in Patong that enjoys good tequila, so I want to bring some to share with him but I don't want to risk any troubles entering the country... It would be a shame to have to surrender the tequila to Customs and even worse to lose my Thailand visiting privileges for a foolish customs violation!
