I have just been stopped once last Feb, in Phuket Town. I was in my rented jeep with my TGF, so maybe it helped a little bit... and not drunk
They just wanted to see my international driving license, have a short look inside the car, then they let me go. My TGF said it was probably because they couldn't speak a good English, so it was easier for them. I have also been very polite with one or two Thai words, so no problem.
I think the Thai government also plans to decrase the number of accidents and victims (difficult to blame them), and asked the police to increase the number of controls.
The best thing to do is to avoid to drive drunk (I am not a saint

) but I prefered to rent a room or call a tuk-tuk if I was mao mak mak... The last thing I would want is to have an accident in LOS, the farang will never win and the car insurance only covers low damages.

It was my slaziest thought of the year
