Thanks for this thread. Now I understand what happened last year.
Last year I travelled to Phuket, caught one of the mini vans and was repeatedly questioned about my hotel. I had already paid for my hotel and had a voucher and didn't understand why everyone was herded into the office when we stopped at the office part way. Afterwards the taxi driver gave me a hard time and told me not to book in advance but they would help me.
