David I understand what you are saying based on morals and circumstances of meeting a girl in USA, but just watch Jerry Springer it even happens in the US as well. Read a few more threads regarding relationships with TG/BG's and thai culture because otherwise you are going to come a big big cropper both financially and emotionally. Trust, honesty, deceipt, one must always be aware this is or can be happening in any relationship short or long time with a thai or really for that matter with any woman surely?
You must understand the point Diz makes, what if the small percentage of LB's are actually born a woman in a mans body, save thousands of bahts to have operations to make them as they feel they should be, do you honestly think they should then wear a sign saying "I was once a man" are they indeed still men?, this subject has been discussed numerous times with never a conclusion.
You will not be fooled intentionally by the majority of LB's and if you cannot tell and did fall in love, whilst not your choice I am sure its nothing major to worry about it. I think I was initially concerned and i have seen it said by many who have perhaps either not been to or not been many times to Thailand, don't know you circumstances so cannot comment on your personal situation, but generalising it will not happen to you.
