The only advice I have is TOTAL honesty.. Sound lame but its the only way to be true to yourself and her and as far as I can work out honesty seems to minimize the heartbreak.. Yes it will be there but it really seems the easiest (belive me I am there roughly once a month)...
Also break up prior to going.. One its out of the way and clear before you get here and two you are free and will not make the drunken mistake of thinking 'hey shes not all bad.. Damn she looks kinda fine.. Perhaps..' etc..

have to agree here, honesty is the way. It all depends a bit on what the story was sofar. If it is just contact or have you given signs you wanted more? Well as many have said, you are bf nr ...... (fill in the blank) and only when you are there you are number 1.
Just tell her honest that you don't want to see her no more and do it before you get to LOS. That way you have a cooldown period.
Even worse? what to do with the one that wants you back after she left in the first place over someone with big stories? Well I will know tomorrow I guess
