Yeah, had THAT conversation a couple of nights ago... more to do with colour of skin and lightly hairy. Not the same connection we have in the west with fat or dirty - in Thailand even the pigs are hygenic

I'm usually the one who calls myself 'pompoi', whilst pointing out that I can encircle their entire wrist with just my thumb and fore- or middle finger (me like slim (porm) girls ). I'm only about 15kg over ideal weight (as defined by some ****ing stick-insect with shares in a gym chain ) and the usual TG response is "pompoi nitnoi good for man, bad for lady..." How much of that is a) Thai modesty, b) Calculated flattery and/or c) Honesty is anyone's guess.

When a TG says something you find offensive, assuming there is no clear anger or malicious overtone, you have to take a moment and then probe further on the assumption it's a cultural misunderstanding/difference.
