I dont think wood would (damn that looks odd) keep out moisture, probably soak it up..
Glass / plexi glass / platic / window stuff, etc could be easily hot glue gunned togetherfo a water proofish housing (masic the cable entries).. I have some optical float glass in the house (edmunds scientific) that was used with a projector hushbox I no longer use, that would be ideal for the viewing side..
Even a bag of salt changed regularly inside would do a lot to soak up moisture..
