Definately a clear cut 2 hours prior for International departures. Everyone on any flight goes through the same security into the departure area and the queues recently have been bloody horrendous. Some check-in desks open 4-5 hours before.

Don't forget access to the airport and parking and drop-off are always busy. Personally, I like to get into the departure lounge in good time and have the first beer of my holiday while watching the people running for gates that are just about to close.
