I think operating bars in Thailand has a lot to do with politics ( who you know ). Authorities are corrupt, you need protections. I'm not talking about local gangs, I'm talking about connection with the Authorities, they are the one that control the busy street life and gangs. Having a partner? I don't think that it is wise, however if you can find an individual that already have experiences or own bars before you would be lucky. Even if you don't get along with that individual at least you can venture on your own once you have learn the ropes. Always try to network with as many people as you can, nice people or not lol... LEARN the trades before you get into something you might not be able to handle..
