I do not disagree with you.

However, I do wonder if the first people to complain were set up by one of our t.v. networks where the crux of the story was “Channel 7 rescues aussies” . And of course the main thrust of the story was of how good channel 7 was, not the rescuing of the people. For a reporter to get a response he wants is not difficult and again channel 7 wanted us to know how much better they were compared to everyone else including the Govt.

And on we went from there, with other media not being able to trump channel 7’s rescue but able to bag the Govt. as their big story.

Not long back we had an aussie, Donald Wood, kidnapped in Iraq. This was huge news in Australia with all media treating him as a hero. When he was rescued he moved to legend status amongst all media. Then a few days after the rescue he signs an exclusivity contract with one network. Well, you have never seen anyone go from hero to zero so damn quickly.

All of a sudden vile and venom from the media that missed out, outrage that he should thank the Americans , apoplexy that he did not thank his kidnappers for treating him so well, calls for him to repay rescue costs etc etc etc

Also, many years ago 60 minutes (Aust. Version) did a story of which I had some knowledge. The story was just absolute lies.

As I said I don’t disagree with you, but always pays to take with a grain of salt any stories emanating from the Australian media.

Cheers
