The Thais are so much taught from infancy that the MOST important thing is politeness. I can see how your typical English woman being rude can seem quite shocking to a TG, particularly as the lady would say "You are the weakest link!" with that more-proper-than-thou schoolmarm tone of voice of a teacher criticizing a student's substandard efforts. So, in a sense, she was not being rude by English standards, yet extremely rude by Thai standards, perhaps.
