Melbourne/Phuket Thai flights
Thai has just announced that from 31JAN06, they will be cancelling the Melbourne/Phuket direct flight. WHY!!!!!
Now that leaves a great opening for Australian Airlines to pick up the slack and start permanent services to Phuket and not just high season charters.

And what do you know, look at what has just been released. This is good news for Phuket.
QANTAS int’l leisure offshoot Australian Airlines has announced it will operate two new weekly nonstop services between Sydney and Phuket from 03 Dec.
Although the introduction is initially just for the peak holiday season, ceo Andrea Staines said the carrier is looking at extending the services on a permanent basis.
“We will monitor these services closely and should there be sufficient demand we will consider moving to a year round operation on the route,” she said.
The scheduled flights will run each Tue and Sat to 31 Jan, and it’s the first time AO has operated the route in its own right.
Last year Qantas Hols operated six charters to Phuket utilising AO 767s after it withdrew from Sabah.

Sydney to Phuket flights are painful for Melbournites. The best option now are the Singapore airlines flights to Phuket via Singapore. One leaves at 12.10am, though and that is a bit hard to take.

I've taken that flight a few times and it has great connection to Phuket. OK your like a zombie walking around Changi for a couple hours, but a BK Whopper for breakie fixes that.

Singapore Airlines are also seriously talking about using Broome as a jump off point to Asia in the later part of 2006. Does'nt mean much to anyone who does'nt live there but I do and I'm pretty excited about it. Just think 3 hours and your there, hope it happens !

Im not into that melbourne vs sydney crap, I just think that airport is a great big s#ithole.
Ill be giving my business to singapore airlines and the rest can get stu##ed.
