Thai Airways Royal Orchid Club
Anyone here familiar with the ins and outs of Thai's frequent flyer program?
I joined this for my last trip to LOS. Racked up close to 18k miles I think. This time I was concerned since I booked restricted economy class that they would screw me over and give me only 50% of the miles (the ticket cost me $1,600). I checked out the fare rules on their site and they list the classes of ticket for 100% miles flow in economy as Y, B, M, H, Q, T, K, S and 50% are V, W. My confirmation says Economy Restricted - E on it...so where does that put me? Or is this flight code hidden somewhere else?

I reckon you are looking in the wrong place...
Applicable flights are displayed with Electronic Ticketing Candidate Indicator {E)
"E" appears to indicate that you will be using an "e-ticket" otherwise known as "electronic ticket".
I would bet that you actually have the following...
ROP miles can be accrued as usual. However.only 50% of miles will be accrued for "V" and "W" class.
You can see all the info at http://www.thaiair.com/Bookings_Sche.../1atermcon.htm
Economy Restricted are the only tickets that do not pay the full mileage (apart from tickets that you got by using accrued mileage of course !!). Actually 50% is quite high as companies like BA only give 25% of the mileage flown.

Well I paid $1340(usd) and my flights are in V class, So that means I will only get 50%
I fly BMI from Dub - Heathrow and back on Q class so I will probably get a few points for that.
About how many points do you get for a short trip from Bkk-HKT in Buisness class on Thai?

I think I found it listed in the cryptic ticket details section of the booking. Not easy to find since it is all set in those codes.
1 - PSGR P1 ADT RULES DISPLAY
FARE COMPONENT 1 ADT NYCBKK TG QHAPX PU 1 S
FCL: QHAPX TRF: 3 RULE: 5310 BK: Q
PTC: ADT-ADULT FTC: XAB-SUPER/SPECIAL ADV PURCHASE
AP.ADVANCE RES/TKT
So it looks like I have a "Q" class ticket??

I got 1,600 Membership miles and 1,600 Destination miles when I flew Business Class in April BKK to HKT. I am a member of BMI's Diamond Club, so I reckon you should get the same.

You automatically get 500 miles in economy , so reckon 625 in business.(125%).

Happy days if that is the case, but I doubt it if you definitely booked Economy Restricted.

My last trip I booked economy restricted and got the trip from NY to BK at 100% and the trip back at 50%, which is why I am unsure about which I might have this time. I sure hope its 100% since the flight is about 17,400 miles round trip I think.

BKK-HKT is 416 miles. You get 500 miles (the minimum rate) in economy and 520 in business.
I booked Brussels-Frankfurt-BKK in economy (Y) and paid 869.36 (included 168.36 airport tax) plus 35 agency air commision.
BKK-HKT-BKK in business (C class) 163.34 (included 16.34 airport tax) plus 35 agency air commision

I have been trying to find out more about "Q" class tickets but haven't found anything so far.
What can happen, especially if you have connections, is that you book "Economy Restricted", but not all sectors are actually that which could explain why you got 100% one way and 50% the other.
Airlines can only give so much detail when you go to a website and put your details in to a travel planner in order to check flight prices or even book flights. For example, even though you might select "Economy Restricted" on the planner, the airline will give the cheapest fare available, which could turn out to be Regular Economy price. This is because only a certain amount of seats are held for Restricted Economy purposes. Once they have been sold, then the next fare level comes in to play. Also, to add to our confusion there is a timescale which gets added so that evcen if there are cheap tickets available still, the price starts going up the nearer you get to the date of departure.
It's a right old racket when you really get in to it and do some investihgation !! The best thing to do is check the "Terms and Conditions" part of your ticket, if you booked online then you would have seen that bit right at the end. This will tell you what class you actually have and also tell you what mileage you are entitled to. Unfortunately, it's the old "small print" and pretty boring stuff, but the answers are all in there.
Cheers
Diz
Currently I travel around Europe in Business Class and pay much less than some of my colleagues who fly Discounted or Restricted Economy. This is because I plan and book ahead, early enough to enjoy all the discounts that they don't get, because they can't be bothered to do the same.

Not quite true El Capitain !!
It depends on which FF programme you belong to as although they are all part of Star Alliance, they do differ. BMI give 800 miles for Economy on a ThaI Air flight from BKK to HKT and they double it for Business Class.
BMI state...
"All non UK Domestic flights of less than 800 miles in Distance = 800 miles earned for each one way"
"Thai Airways International x 2.0 miles for codes c,d,l"
It may be that Thai Air don't give the same.
What FF programme is Ally part of ??

I am Royal Orchid Gold Frequent Flyer, FF with Thai since 1993 and I allways get 520 for a trip BKK-HKT or HKT-BKK.
So maybe I have to complain with Thai and inform them that I better book BMI?

Yes I think you should. It is strange that it is different although they are in the same alliance. I did look on the Thai Air website and according to what they say, you should get 625, i.e. 500 x 125% so I wonder where they get 520 from

Elementary mathematics
BKK-HKT is 416 miles. Minimum is 500 miles you get. So in economy you get 500 miles.
In business 416 x 125% = 520
