Thai Airways excess weight

I normally fly eva air but thai this time.
Are thai airways really strict about excess weigh. just weighed my case 2.5 kgs over.
Yes my hand luggage is also full so no chance there.
Would i get charge for it? my girlfriend said thai airways are normally good if it's only a few kgs.
anyone else had any problems if there is a few kgs over.
24 hours til i fly.

thanks
baz

I've only had two flights with Thai Airways before but there was no problem with a little overweight.

I think nowadays, the airlines are more concerned with the loaded weight of each individual case.
Gulf Air for instance will not take a case that is heavier than 32kg
OK if you in a group and can move gear around but it seems more common now that they will refuse to accept a case thats too heavy.

Have a great trip Baz........would you be back for Songkran?? Like another beer with you

Baz dont worry they usually don't mind a little over, if they charge its not a lot and if you are really concerned chuck some stuff out cos your bound to buy some more things while you are there, and getting clothes washed is real cheap.

A few years ago, some international rules/guidelines came out ... a sort of "heath and safety" thing to protects the baggage handlers. So, if an individual case is over the baggage limit and somone hurts themselves, then then airline is responsible.

Actually the EU H&S rules say individual pieces may not weigh more than 32kg as they would require special handling.

Airline allowances can be higher, for example sports equipment such as scuba gear, some airlines on some routes give extra allowances for such, but again not greater than 32kg per individual piece. Even if you are flying first class and get a 40kg allowance, you'd have to pack two bags, neither over 32kg.

I pack to the limit, and a little above, of the economy allowance (20kg) and usually get a 'heavy label attached to the scuba bag.

Last Xmas tour I flew with Emirates who allowed 40kg if it included scuba gear. However the return leg from BKK to Dubai was operated by Thai (code share thing I hadn't spotted when booking) who did not allow the extra. I had to repack and take the rest as carry-on - logical? Mai pen rai!.

Despite frequent tannoy warnings about one piece of carry-on per passenger, no one said anything as I hauled three bags with over 20kg on board.

That is a little on the crazy side, as heavy stuff stored in overhead bins is a potential safety hazzard. Ever seen the results of one popping open after a, lets say less than light landing, and the contents emptying itself onto the occupant of the seat under. Not a pretty sight.
