Have rates gone up?
Hi,
Im new to the forum but have been going to Patong for a few years now. I'm hearing rumors that prices have increased since the tsunami, wondering if it is true? From what I am seeing of hotel rates, things have gone up quite a bit. Hoping someone is currently there, that can let me know about hotel rates. I usually stay 4 to 5 weeks. I just found this forum, its great that this site is here. Hats off to the people that put it together, very helpful, thanks so much.

Hotel rates are the normal "High Season" prices , I have been out twice since the Tsunami and found a lot of lower priced deals due to low occupancy.

High season
High season kicked in on 1st Nov and prices listed in web sites and brochures are now at the higher rate. There are still a lot of good guest houses doing discounts and you can still get a reasonable price now.

I think in highseason you can find hotels and guesthouses from about 600-700b and up.........depends on how close to Bangla you want to stay and the standard of the hotel offcause.
I have booked bungalows in the back of Soi Sansabay for a coupple of friends for New Year, and they only have to pay 850b a day

If you change your mind about a hotel your staying at and see a better hotel to stay at near bangla, do the hotel owners "require" reservations to stay there? And do you ever have to pay a fee with no reservations to stay there, whether they are fully booked or not? Also, is it cheaper to just show up at the hotel with no reservations instead of pre-paying through some sort hotel service(internet, travel agent)?

Geir,
Don't want to put you or your friends off but I stayed at those bungalows a few years back. Everthing was fine except for the swarms of mossies from the lake.
Tell your friends to take & use plenty of repellant.
I did use it in my room, but found that as soon as the sun goes down, you can get severely bitten just walking to your bungalow from the car park.

I live in one of the big 2 rooms bungalows myself and have no problems with the mosqitos.....As long as you keep the doors and windows locked at night there is no problem.........I might be to smelly for the mosqitos when Im crawling back home from my bar
Denver and Faulty, I will check out if they have a website

Their website is www.phuket-sansabai.com but it looks like they didnt pay for the domain name since it is a directory page now.

Thank you guys, ever so much. I have a Thai friend that has booked my room at a reasonable rate. It amazes me all the information on this forum. I have seen pictures of friends and Bg's that I know, really nice. I'll be in Patong for 4 or 5 weeks, maybe I'll get the chance to meet some of you. I usually stop by the Sailor bar and a bar at the very front of soi eric. I can't remember the name of it, but lovely people there. Thanks again.
