House rental - more permanent accomadation

Hi all,

After visiting Thailand for the first time in July this year and loving it I have decided to go back, hopefully this time for 6+ months.

Please can anybody tell me of any good, realistically priced Thailand accomadation websites please?

I was told when in Thailand that you are looking at 10,000 baht a month to rent a desent house in Ko Samui, I am not definitely looking for a house in Ko Samui, any good sites would be appriciated as I only seem to be able to find over prices holiday accomadation sites.

Thanks,

Luke

Im in the same boat as you luke. im struggling to find a apartment for reasonable price. i did find a decent looking one just out of patong for 16000 baht with pool, balcony and a decent size. which is pretty decent i think (or am i getting ripped????). i'm still looking tho and will let u know if i find anything else. otherwise it will be a case of hoteling it when i get there till i find somewhere.

but if anyone one can help a point in the right direction would be much appreciated.

Cheers,

Stevie...

p.s i have looked at accomadation section but didnt find much before anyone rips into me....

Not a bad find stevie boy, i always said to the bosses that you were not a total spastic, i have just mailed them to ask about any available apartments, also told them you were not very reliable so should consider me first.

There is a thread on thaivisa that lists a lot of websites with this info, i will have a look later and post it.

Simon

I looked at BaanSuan before I ended up in the Rattana Hill Apartment. Stevie, I've PMed you some details.

BaanSuan is right up the hillside at the back of Patong and when I viewed it I couldn't raise anyone to get a look inside the rooms but just looking around the pool/bar area put me off as it was very dirty and the whole place looked like it needed some maintenance...this was in June in low season though. It's also in a fairly unsafe area....no street lights.

Guys,

I stayed in the penthouse in Baan Suan in September for a couple of weeks. Pretty nice and an awesome view as it's on Hasip Pee Rd overlooking the whole of Patong (pic attached). Overall not too happy with the interior and the shower would pack up regularly, and it was a royal pain in the ar$e if you needed something from 7/11 as you had to go all the way down the hill and back up again!!

We then found a house in Nanai Rd, in a very quiet soi we didn't even know existed. Next to the Mango Tree at the north end of Nanai. I think the Ikon hotel is opposite the entrance. Anyway, a bit pricey, but works out to only be only 1000Bt a night for a 2 bed/3 bath house, split level living/dining room, ADSL/Cable, washing machine, leather sofas. Very central and very quiet considering it's location.

Go to gardenislandphuket.com These are the guys we are renting through. English guy Tom runs the show, very friendly and there to help out if we have any problems.

There doesn't seem to be much on there at the moment for Patong, but I'm not sure how often the site is updated. Our place is still listed on there here

Happy Hunting!!

Borrowed from J634 on Thaivisa

In my search for a rental place I have come across many websites. I hope someone can use these.
Most of the sites are in Thai. Some have English, but I think the prices are higher. My advice would be to stay with the Thai sites. You will pay less and most times get more. Good luck with your search.

If you were going to stay for 6+ months then my advice would be not to arrange anything permanent until you get here. Book into cheap hotel accommodation for the first week, buy a cheap mobile phone, rent a motorbike and drive around the areas you would like to live in, you will be amazed at how many small ‘house for rent’ signs you will see.

Broadly speaking there are two long-term paradigms to follow either as a long stay tourist by living in a tourist community or as a long stay local by living in a Thai community. Living in a Thai community in an amazing experience because you will find all your needs taken care of on your doorstep. You will find all manner of businesses being run from your Thai neighbors houses for example laundries, shops, bars, and restaurants. Many of my neighbors are BGs who I will see locally as a neighbor and socially as a BG; they pop in for falang boyfriend advice, for email advice and sometimes for the obvious. The local newspaper http://www.phuketgazette.net/ has a good online selection of houses for rent but nothing beats driving around your favorite locales.

Some pretty good stuff here guys...nice one. i think u hit the nail on the head there JohnP cos all the places i have looked at on the web all look class A but im sure its a different story when u get there....dam photographers and there air brushes!!

I think i will probaly start off as long stay tourist to start cos im pretty spoilt and really want the use of a pool. is there a big standard difference in the type of accomadation between tourist and thai areas??

9 and a half weeks to go...not that im counting the days or anyhting.

The standards of accommodation between tourist and Thai communities are very different. If it is luxuries you want then a tourist area is the best choice if it is experiences you want then a Thai community would be best. You could always start off in a tourist area and see if you want to move to a Thai area after a month or so. The only drawback to this idea would be that most house renters want at least six months tenancy.
