Cheap Long-Stay Accomodation
I am thinking about a longer stay in Patong, probably from feb. to april 2006. Totally 7-8 weeks. I need some place central and not too expensive, somewhere on Rat-thu-thit or Sansabai. At least in walking distance to Bangla. I dont care about Air-con or high-standards. Any suggestions?
I am also unsure about the visa. If you book a flight that doesnt return in 30 days, do you need a visa pre to arrival?

The easiest way is to apply for a tourist visa at Thai embassy in your country, it will give you 60 days (and can be extended with another 30 days without leaving Thailand).
Otherwise you will have to do a visa run after 30 days, e.g. go to Ranong/Burma or KL.
I can not help with any cheap and central location, if you want cheap then you should look at Sainamyen (and behind) and Nanai road.

Baantonsai Garden Resort is a low cost place, it looks OK from the website but that could be deceiving although I have heard it's OK. For the dates you mention, you could get a standard room for 600baht a night to start with dropping to 500baht on 1st March and 400baht on 17th April.

Good luck

Apartment
Hi MT - Simon in Faulty Towers could get you organized with an apartment in Sky Condotel. He has a mate who owns four fully furnished all mod cons places.I believe the going rate per month is perhaps 12000 Baht.(works out 400 per day). It is a little farther to walk but the price is right.

Do you mean Sky Inn.
If so you can get a nice a/c room, probably with small kitchenette for around
6k. Make enquiries with Malina in the bar on the g/floor. I can'r remember the name of the bar offhand but it's the one that looks like a western saloon. You can't miss it. It has a pool table and a lot of the local bikers hang out there.

Head north up Rat-U-Thit from Bangla, over the Sai Nam Yen junction lights.
About 500 metres further up, on your right is a soi leading to Devana Hotel, Grand Condotel and Sky Inn. Number 8 Bar is on the corner of the soi & Rat -U -Thit. You can also try the Grand Condotel as they have some good deals for monthly stays and are more upmarket than Sky Inn.
