Question Best place to rent a big sportbike in Phuket??

Hi all! I'm coming to Phuket for second time now and last time i visited Phuket i rented a Yamaha R1 motorcycle for 8 days and it was so fun to ride around the Phuket island. I rented the Yamaha from a bikeshop at the near Karon end of Patong beach for 1 200 baht a day and they took my passport for insurance. The bike was quite ok but the front brakes shaked a little when braking.

Can anyone recommend me some reliable bike renthal shops? (Address?) I understand that no one gives anykind of insurance for example in case of bike theft or vandalism?

I appreciate all responses!

I havent rented as I have my little baby blade and its enough for this island and my needs but I hear good things about 2 places. One is leaving Patong heading to Safari apporx opposite Simon Caberet.. They have big bikes and I am told they are well maintained etc..

Next is down Nanai if you are on Nanai just go south down the hill from the 'icon' hotel.. On the left (heading south) theres a small bike rental shop there that has only one or two big bikes but I was told that the ones they had were new and well maintained.

By not being on beach Rd both places should be a better deal than the usual tourist inflation that beach Rd has.

Cool Nicky's Handlebar

Nicky rents out his fleet of HDs and they are very well maintained. His bar and worhshop is near the northern end of Ratutit Road. The place where Big Bike on Ratutit Road was is still in business too.Over in Kata next to the Hans Christan Andersen restaurant is another reliable shop.I believe owned by a Fin.

Crustasian, how much does Nicky rent out the HDs for?? i personally think that a harley is too much of a risk without insurance, if you lay one of them down it is going to cost far too much to repair.
I have taken 2x400cc bikes on my tours, the first one came from the beach and it was the first time i had been on a sportsbike, CBR400 and i really enjoyed it, probably about 15 years old but was in pretty good condition, the next one i went to the place sefton is talking about, on the left on the way to safari, he only had a VFR 400, which i took but it was in a lot worse condition than the one from the beach and i really did not enjoy the VFR as much as the CBR, i paid 500 baht per day for both of those.
sorry i cant help you much with regards to where to get one, if i am there before you i will update as i will be trying somewhere new next time(as long as it is not raining).

hi hansci,
my 1st post so hope i do this right I got what I thought was a pretty good deal from guy on Beach Rd(opp. Hagen Das)for full-size Fireblade(not the CBR400)@1000bt/day. I reckon he was prepared to negotiate for longer rental but while I LOVED the bike it really didn't suit TG and was slightly less than practical - no storage & awkward to park etc. He insisted on having my passport though, wouldn't entertain photocopy. I wasn't best pleased but it worked out OK on this occasion. The bike wasn't new but was in superb order, black livery and clean as a whistle. I was staying on Nanai Rd and checked out the guy there(at least i think it's the same one LOS mentioned here already), he had a spanking R1, less than 5K on the clock and was looking 1500bt/day. BTW this was at the start of Nov. and probably not high-season. Good luck, can't wait to get back

Hi mate

Ive had the very same bike on hire, it shuddered with me also. I reported it to him on it's return

Me and dirty mike (Mike GB) also hired Honda CBR1000 fireblades from there, whcih were fine

They also have quite a few new bikes e.g. Yam R6, Honda CBR600 & Kawasaki Z1000 streetbike

Take the bike for quick run, if something isnt right take it back straight away!!!!

also its a good idea to give them a photocopy of your passport rather than the original

For me this is still the best place to hire serious bkes, I would stay well away from the hirers near ther beach

As for Harley's I would ban them from Phuket all the bloddy things do is make a noise which is quite off putting when Im trying to get drunk
