Thai airways and using a laptop ?
Hello, I've never been flying with thai airways, but i've been flying with other companies and they have some policys that you are not allowed to use gameboys and other equipment like that, I dont remember if they allowed laptops to be turned on during the flight.
Anyway, how is it to bring a laptop on the thai airway planes? is it allowed to use them and do they have power so you can hock the laptop up with a adapter ?

I beleive that the only power is in business class, but you should really contact the airline.

Buying a business class ticket is over $2000, so I probably buy some extra batteries instead :p

You can use a laptop on all airlines now apart from Take Off and Landing
I have now 5 batteries with my laptop got a great deal for 4 batteries off ebay for £100.
Only problem is when they try weighing my backpack for hand luggage always causes an argument, it's now over 12 KG, with laptop - 4 extra batteries & adaptor and other Cr*p you keep with it.

I have/do:
1) a coat of many pockets full of stuff: esimated weight 5kg
2) a clippable belt with many small bags on it under above coat (c.f. army kit belts) - can unclip quickly and throw through X-ray machine without unthreading too.
3) tend to 'accidentally leave my laptop on the luggage trolley ('ready for security screening') in case they ask to weigh the bag with the batteries and power supply, books nibbles, snacks etc.
To avoid grief from boparding staff, obtain a duty free carrier bag - they never question those as 'extra' carry-on.
Just some ideas....

I was mulling this over in Maplin's the other day WRT using the laptop down the pub:
1 meaty car battery - £30
1 Maplin's 300W 12Vdc->240V inverter - £30
Look on the pub ("you can't plug that in here") manager's face - priceless!

In all my times flying I have never been requested to weigh my carry on luggage.. Due to laptops and things I often have 2 pieces also..

If they are expecting the load on a flight to be near the max, then they will be looking at carry ons. Taking heavy items, like even 12kgs into the cabin and storing them in the overhead bins is dangerous. Ever seen one of these bins pop open, and spill its contents on the people below, not a pretty sight.

Same as you. But not true anymore. The airlines are getting much much tougher. And often demand to weigh my flight bag - 1 KG! (pre duty free).

Well there would be some very active discussion.. I came with 3 pieces of carry on one time.. Piece 1 was new laptop and multiple pieces of computer electronics.. Multi 1000 USD value.. Piece 2 was a digital projector +- 8k Piece 3 was normal small carry on bag of tickets etc..
Now if they expect me to check in a laptop and digital projector and accept a 20 GBP per kilo loss claim they have another thing coming.. If they want to guarantee full local replacement value then fine we can talk.. If they expect me to take the risk on 10k Plus worth of uninsured stuff then its staying very close to me..

Carry on luggage is getting the point where it is a joke. I have been on a Thai Airways flight in business class where spare seats where used to carry suitcases. I forget how many regs that flight violated.
Take this as a warning though, with the introduction of larger aircraft, like the new A380 and the next generation 747, airlines will have no option but to enforce strict carry on rules, otherwise they will be sacrificing freight uplift. Freight earns more revenue to an airline than carrying passengers does, so they don't like doing that.
I know of a flight, where the captain refused to leave the gate, unless 1000kgs was unloaded from the cabin. The cabin looked like a department store back dock. Not only was it extremely dangerous, but would've put the aircraft very close to MTOW (maximum take off weight). The gate staff received a very good talking too.

Another safety issue is the weight load those overhead things can hold. In the midlands air crash many years ago a lot of those racks collapsed on peoples heads.
In the brace position you are supposed to put your hands on top of your head - this is so your hand gets broken not your skull! Do NOT interlink your fingers as you may break all your fingers and you won't be able to get your seatbelt undone put your weaker (left) hand on top of your stronger one.

As a rule, damage to electronics is not insured in checked baggage. So if the LCD display of your laptop is broken, you will not be refunded.
You have to take ist a cabin baggage.

Thats my point.. checked in has only a pittance covered and yet sometimes your carrying too much for one hand luggage..
Anyway as yet I have never had a problem...

I store my 12Kg load either under seat and ask them to put in a side locker, never overhead as I'm the one normally below it and don't want that landing on me.
Also laptop's, projectors etc. - going in the hold normally don't come out working. This from people i know who have tried.

PC's are not so expensive in Thailand. Besides, your laptop wouldn't have the Thai alphabet
