i dont know of any hotels with adequate gyms in patong. you can go to patong gym, not too bad, or look in the yorkshire inn thread, there was a mention of a new gym opening up.
as far as hotel right on the beach, only one i know of in patong is patong bay garden resort

I find Patong beach rather bad, compared to other beaches on Phuket.
If you wanna live at or close a beach try Bangtao or Surin beach or something.

TaiLife has just opened, it is behind TaiPan on Soi Sunset, about 1/2 way to the ExPat. Small, but they have nice stuff. Pool, steam, sauna, massage, machines, free weights, food and drink.

I for one won't stay at a hotel unless it has a comprehensive gymnasium for me to keep my physique in tip-top condition while on my holidays!

They don't have a lot of free weights, maybe 4 or 6 stations. they have a web site, you can check out for more details. WWW.tailife.com.

As for Patong Gym, I haven't been there, but this tries to to appeal to a broad base, so if you are "hard core" and doing squats with 500lbs+ you might not be happy there. But hey, it doesn't cost to look.

Right on the beach in Phuket you have Impiana Phuket Cabana, Patong Beach Bungalows, Patong Beach Resortel, patong Bay Garden Resort, and 1 or 2 guesthouses.

there's a gym at the andaman beach suites (northern part of patong, big building). check out their link: www.beachsuites.com i only used it once while i was drunk as a monkey and sprained my ankle while trying to do some exercises...since then the only sport i do is lifting beers from the bar to my mouth

Hi mate, my group of 7 guys stayed at the Patong Merlin Hotel.

http://www.merlinphuket.com/patong/map.html

We had one mate who is a hard core Rock Ape that decided he must exercise and couldn't stop for 10 days.

Positives - Great Hotel, Fantastic Food, Gym/Excercise Room, the HUGH numerous pools ARE open all night to those that decide the guards could do with a small tip.

Negatives - Not the cheapest hotel, 800b joiner fee, 10+ min walk (sober) to Bangla (tuk tuk ride home) More of a family/couples hotel but we liked the quality, facilities and the POOLS.

Enjoy your holiday its a great place

Cheers

SD
