Marina Phuket

Hi Everyone
This is my first post, but have been planning my trip for a while,will be arriving in April.
Have booked the Marina (where the jungle meets the sea) http://www.marinaphuket.com[/url].
Can anyone give me feedback? Is it a long way from the evening entertainment?

Seems not a bad hotel, heared some good of it. Not sure if GF. Far end of Karon, close to Kata, so it is a bit of a trip to Patong.

It is a bit away from patong but a very nice hotel. Nightlife in Kata and Karon is bit more quiet then patong, but there is enough for anyone.

From Marina on the street take a left turn to head to Karon Beach.
Walk along the beach.

On your right hand side just after the footballstadium (soccer if you are from the USA) you will find some nice small restaurants that are nice and cheap.

Walk along till you see a sign Happy Bar. In that Soi there used to be a lot of bars, but lately there are just about 5 open the last time i was there (changes every week). Lady's bar (walk in soi and then second on left hand side is allways good for a game of backgammon for a beer :P)

When walking into the soi on your left hand there is a restaurant called "Hungry Corner" which is great for quick small lunch.

if you go to the other side of the Hungry corner there is another small soi with bars. (about 12 in total) walk into that soi and go round the corner for 4 more bars in row. Second one of the for is allways fun for game and pool and nice owner (Nan's Bar)

walk on to the street and take a right turn. along the street there are some sportbars and restaurants. Halfway the street is a side street with a bar with live music (robberts band, if he still play's there) when you keep following the street you get almost to the traffic lights you can take a left turn (last soi before the traffic lights) there is a cluster of 5/6 bars there.

go back to the traffic lights and cross the street and you will get to three more bars that have been mentioned before by our fellow BM TinTin (Farang Bar, Phuket Bar and Bar Asia if I am right)

This is mainly the area that you can access from marina in a distance of 10 minutes walk within Karon.

When you leave your hotel and take a right turn you go up the hill to Kata.
On top of the hill on your right hand side there is a bar and indian restaurant. I would suggest leave both for what they are and walk on.

On the main crossroad in Kata you have 3 options:
1) first left: Walk in the street and you get a nice simpel restaurant on your left hand (after the leather shop) where you can eat good for less. a bitt further up the stairs is a very nice restaurant if you want to eat more upstyle with the girl.

Walk along the street and you will find some more restaurants. Keep an eye out on your right side and see if you can spot the cooking pot (red outdoor grill) for some of the best steaks in town.

If you walk on along the street you will find Scous Richy (open till sun comes up, good for beer but awful girls) a bit further on either side you will find a cluster of 6/7 bars.

(If you need internet: follow the street till the traffic lights and take a left and on other side of the street there will be 2 internet cafe's for 30 baht/hour)

2) take the second left.

On your right hand side you will a cluster of 10+ bars within the first few 100 meters. If you follow the road (after about 1 km) you will get a newly build area with shops, restaurants and bars that i really cant tell much about as i only walked around there ones.

3) walk straight on (keeping right)

When you walk up on the hill and down there will be 4 restaurants (or 5) on your left hand with simpel menu but good during lunch while on the beach. After about 500 meter you will reach Kata Beach which i would prefer over Karon Beach.

Well this is just a brief outline of Kata/Karon and in no way complete
Have fun there, will be there myself in march (6-16).

How many Baht roughly for a cab ride to Patong? Would want a soapy massage whilst there,unless someone could recommend anywhere near where I am staying?

Ride to patong is 250/300 baht depending on your skills:P

Soapies? Not my field of knowledge. Seems a good thing for a new article. Unfortunatelly my next trip will be only holiday
