First time, hotel help
So I have my airplane tickets for my first visit to LOS! Feb 19th to 27th. Now I need some help making the rather tough choice of hotels. I have read almost every single thread and have narrowed down my choice to these three hotels. The Burasari, junior suite = 3200 bht. Deevana Spa room deluxe = 3200 bht or Patong Villas = 2,200 bht. I like the Burasari and Deevana beacuse of their high speed internet and the upscale rooms. However they do seem to frown upon the nightlife activity.
Being a 34 year old male from the US I am sure that I will venture down Bangla road once or twice during my stay, this is where Patong Villa comes in. It is much closer to the action and is not going to mind me stumbling in at night. That said I am still going to need to work during the day so waking up to room service and wireless highspeed at Bursari or Deevana has it's advantages.
Any advice would sure help this .

Why spend so much money on a hotel room you will spend very limited with time in? Even if you would bring a girl home with you every night it's still not worth it.
*edit - unless ofcourse your job is paying, then ive heard that The chadi or La meridian or maybe even Arcadia is pretty nice
Oh and btw - all big hotels probably have a lady joiner fee, around 600-1000 or so.

That is the problem, I need to spend around 2-3 hours per day doing work via email. Much nicer sitting by the pool or on a balcony and working via wi-fi.

It is up to you. GF doesn't mean in most cases "joiners not allowed", but simply "if you want to bring somebody to your room pay 600/1000 Baht extra". So if you want excellent comfort and doesn't mind paying a 1000 baht fot those times you don't want to "sleep" alone, then take a not-GF hotel.
After all, it is only 2 times you are thinking of trying the Thai nightlife, so 2000 Baht would be sufficient (now why don't I believe that last sentence???).

Little faith in my resolve or maybe you realize that I have no idea of what the nightlife will be like. Is it possible that my 2-3 hrs of daily work will be spent fighting off hangovers? Still leaning towards booking the Bursari, I tip like crazy and have a great smile, maybe they will be a little understanding....

No, not understanding, much wants more ALWAYS but the lady joiner fee is not something the doorguard puts in his pocket, i can only speak for the hotel i was at, but i had to sign a paper each night.
I even asked them if i could just pay everything upfront for the remaining 14 days or so i was there. "No can do!" Ok so can i check out and check in again with her? "No can do" And one day, i just paid the 600baht and went up to room, didnt sign the paper, then when my girl came, the manager came up to my room with her, and said "Charged to room ok?" then i was realy pissed off, had already paid for her but the idiot didnt understand. So i just said "whatever" and closed the door right infront of his nose. The morning after he apologized and said my mistake, im sorry sir. And then he gave us free breakfast, that was actually pretty nice of him but im NEVER staying in a big hotel again.

Doesn't Salathai has Salathai suites or something like that? I think a BM said they had internet, and they are GF.

This is sounding like it may be a big pain in the @#$% if I want a "girlfriend" in the room.

Burasari is, i believe 1K joiner.
Patong Villa advertises wifi in room (flyer in the room) but never tried it - prob worth emailing them.

The hotel 'GF\Non GF' question seems to come up a lot. The way I see it is that the top end hotels don't want us sleazy party people in their places. For me, it's not the joiner fee it's the grief.
When I'm on holiday I really don't want the hotel staff bugging me about the company I keep or looking down their noses at the girl I am having breakfast with. If you stay in a top end hotel, that is what will happen.
To me, the question is 'are they girl friendly?', I don't care about the joiner fee, it's about how they treat me.

This is freaking crazy, I have never had this problem anywhere. I've stayed at plenty Ritz Carlton's and they would never question who I am entertaining in my room. As long as there is no noise, disruption of other guests or security concerns why should they care? So back to my basic question, seems like if I want to stay at an upscale resort my partying had better stay on Bangla.

Not all hotels on Bangla are GF, take the Baan Sukhothai as an example.

Your answer, it seems to me, is a hotel that you like and somewhere else for your mongering. Good plan.

Seems like that makes sense, I am going to look for something on or close to Bangla for around $1000 - $1500 bht. Beats paying the joiner fee and provides a landing pad close to the night life. I'll do my walk of shame in the morning solo.

And why can't she sleep while you are working and then you can wake her up and award yourself for ebing such a diligent employee. Think of the great work ethic that will promote. And I am just like Captain here in that I think if you go out on one of your first nights you will probably get hooked and then be sorry about where you stay if it is non girl friendly.
Salathai would be a good choice.

Salathai is a great boutique hotel but I don't think they have wireless they do have internet access though.
What about Baan Yin Dee wifi access around the resort, problem solved.

What gets up my nose about the joiner fee is the way that the hotels are saying they don't approve of the whole bar scene and prostitution - they don't mind taking their cut though!

Marc said he never had problems with joiner fee in Baan Yin Dee. Hotel seems GF, and a nice hotel too. Bit far from the action, need tuktuk.

I stayed at Deevana 2 years ago four nights. The motel charged me only 300 baht to bring back a girl. You will need tuk-tuk to get back to motel maybe 100 or 200 baht, I forget. Deevana is a nice place and I dont think you'lll have a problem as long as you are a gentleman. Very nice pool and a good restaurant and reasonably priced. I think if you're looking for peace and quiet yet still close to the action with wireless it's a solid choice. Perhaps you should try booking only one or two nights and then decide if your'e comfortable. Late Febuary should be fairly easy to find other motels on short notice. Don't sweat it, you are going to have a blast. I just hope you make it out to Bangla more than two nights??!! Enjoy!

In your situation with a LT girl and a non BG girl at that I would refuse joiner fee and put her name in the book..
If they say cannot then tell them you are checking out..
Any hotel in the world should accept a couple booked in together as that.. Even check out and then get her to go get a room !! then the room is in her damn name just to spite the pr1cks..

Also regards the Burasi do a search on my user name and staying there.. I have posted what I think about them enough times..
Booked as a couple they were obviously rude to my girl / wife copping an attitude, looking down thier nose at her, ignoring her in the lobby etc etc.. Never setting foot inside the place again and let any and all know how they behaved is the consumers democratic way to change these sort of people.

I understand if you want the luxury of working by the pool, but FYI there are plenty of high speed internet cafes that will allow you to bring a laptop- especially if it's only 3 hours a day- I wouldn't necessarily let wi-fi trump GF- but up too yoo

I went to Club Rio. Could log in with my laptop. For free, just spent money on drinks and chicken wings. I normally had 24 or 36 Mbps, sometimes more.

So way on gods earth you had 24 Mbps internet connection.. Theres only 155 Mbit serving the whole Island..
Like anything like this its the weakest link in the chain that counts.. I think 500kps would be an stunning net connection here.. About 2% of 24Mbit !!
