The main complaint was the price they charged for the new lock, 2K for a simple lock change in thailand by there own maintenence staff???
Also i found the staff there somewhat patronising (expecially at reception) I can take a joke but it was overt and quite offencive sometimes
As for the water i didn't think it was there particular problem, just didn't know it was the norm or not

Yes, 2000 is a bit steep.
Brown water is not the norm, but it can happen. I had it in some other hotels also. Some places even don't get water in dry season.

My friend copped a bit of grief in PV recently...
I had booked him in for a few days, before we were to go to Phi Phi. He wanted a room for another couple of nights on the way back so we asked if a room was available, to which the answer was yes, and it was reserved on the spot.
When he checked out the lady told him that there had been a mistake and that the room wasn't available. No problem, plenty of rooms elsewhere, thanks very much. Only problem was that they had lost his laundry, so we agreed to come back after Phi Phi to pick it up and find a new room.
Well, when we came back the old dear working there said that it was ok, a room was free now as they had a cancellation and he could check-in immediately. Unfortunately, he had already popped over the road and got a room in the Beach Bungalows, so he told them and asked for his laundry back.
The girl there started giving him some serious grief, saying that he was wrong to go and get another room, and he should have come back first to check again, blah, blah, blah...giving him snide looks etc..
They then made him wait at least 20 mins for his laundry only to come back and say that it had been lost!! This women then starts on at him again, this time raising her voice to him and being quite aggresive - which he did not do at any point, mainly because he was pretty scared of her as I was too. I went and had a ciggie outside to get out of the way.
Now obviously she was pissed that she had an empty room for possibly 2 nights, but it was not his fault in any way, and he had actually booked the room in the first place, which they had cocked up - not him.
That sort of attitude will lose customers pretty quickly, and there is no way he would ever stay there again now. On top of that I don't remember him getting much in the way of an apology for losing his laundry either!!

Hi
Hi all...I wrote this on other thread about pv
It was my first time in los....the first 4 days were hectic, hassle from market traders and all that...if they think your new they take the piss...can get annoying
i loved my stay in patong...the people were fine, the bars were great...as for being ripped off by bg, i got drinking with a brit and was STAGGERING back to hotel...she took me by the arm back to hotel (I think just to rob me) i was a sitting duck
as for hotel, the reception staff are a true pain,,,they smile but you just get the feeling they are thinking of ways to rip you off between themselves...the one girl spoke excellent english one day to me then another could hardly speak a word?? for me trust in the staff is all part of the deal....the are paid by the owners, if they want a tip they go the wrong way about it
anyway I would deffinatly not advise a stay...i love patong and the girls are great, just watch your cash
regards jd

I just got my tickets to LOS again, as I probably have mentioned in the other threads. But I wanted to revisit this thread because of the hatred I have for Patong Villa!!!! I was thinking of staying in Sea Pearl?? I believe it is south of where all the attractions are. The hotel is located off the main beach road due south, I believe where the circular road is. From the outside the hotel looks great, has anyone stayed there before? And could give me any suggestions?
I know this is going to cause a lot of hectic and anger for most of you. But I plan on having one of my friends go inside Patong Villa to snap a picture of that obnoxious, rude, and snotty b*tch. Just to have in my collection.
Can't wait to visit Patong again!!! See ya guys there in May

Sea Pearl is a very nice hotel. It is one of two in Patong that is connected to the Club Absolute holiday share hotels.
The other is Thara Patong, which is not guest friendly,so I would expect SeaPearl to be the same.
Anyone have any knowledge of whether Seapearl is guestfriendly?
As far as PV goes wildone, I suggest you forget all about it. You had an unfortunate experience there and I would leave it. Nothing to be gained by taking a photo of a receptionist, who incidentally probably wouldn't be too happy at a stranger, who is not a guest, taking her pic

Sorry guys but I just don't get the hatred being sent PV's way............I've had several geat stays there in bungalow rooms and have never had a problem..........no disrespect.........no overcharging.......no lost keys..........no bottle water incidents........maybe I am lucky but I just don't think so.....
All hotels have a lost key charge.........particularly safe keys.......and most of the hotels of PV standard will charge you BHT2K or more for it.........nothing unusual there.......
Brown Water...........has happened in every hotel I have stayed at in Patong............it's to do with purchased trucked in water or low level town water supply......
Overcharging on Mini Bar...........I imagine the reception girls are going on what the maid says......but who cares..........and how many of you know how many waters you or your guest drank the night before....
I just don't think this adds up to PV......"the worst hotel ever"
I am there over the weekend and then again for a week afterwards so I will definitely look for any problems.....and report them if I find them
Oh.........and don't go to Thailand if you can't put up with a bit of banter from Indian tailors ...they are everywhere.......and always the same!

As some others have already stated, the key lost charge is normal, and at 2K is on the cheaper side as someother properties charge more. A decent lock costs about 1K to buy.
As for the brown water, alot of sois use bore water, and I believe that seeing as Soi SeaDragon does, it wouldnt surprise me to find that PV does as well, same owners.

Seems like fairly common reports of staff scheming and hassle though..
Looks like someone needs to reign that in or they will lose business.

I tend to agree, Nelson, WildOne seems to have lost the plot a little...seems to be on a bit of a vendetta now...sending in a friend to snap a pic of the offending receptionist seems to be a bit rediculous...and for what purpose and to what end???
It's all part of travel and such incidences aren't unique to LOS.
My hubby, son and I stayed at the Patong Villa last August for three weeks...we had a Sweet suite (224) and the room next door for our son (223)...we thought the rates were good, the position was great and the staff and Manageress were great and always helpful, polite and cheerful.
If you cant stand the banter from Indian tailors or Thai hawkers...YOU SHOULDN'T BE THERE!! It's best just to laugh with them or even at them...they don't care...they laugh with you...it costs nothing and is easier to smile at them and say no nicely rather than to be angry and tell them to f*ck off. Mostly after a week they give up...but some never do LOL As one other BM said (and I didn't know this) take the back way out through Soi Seadragon.
Three years ago we stayed at the Patong Beach Hotel with our 4 sons...we had three rooms...when we went to check out they wanted to charge us for some coathangers and a couple of ashtrays...we said we didn't have them and after some discussion convinced them to check the rooms again as we had moved some things from one room to the next...ie: I didn't have enough coathangers in my room so I took some from my son's rooms...the same thing happenned to the ashtrays as the boys didn't smoke so we had them in our room...we said politely, "were they going to charge us for the chair that was missing from one of the rooms as well?"...LOL...we'd moved that too!!! ROTF LMAO Anyway when they rechecked they found their mistake...but don't make the mistake of expecting an apology!
Another time, 2 years ago, we booked again at the Patong Beach Hotel...we had taken the "Red-eye" from Sydney direct to Phuket on Thai which arrives at 6.00am in Phuket...gets you to the hotel at about 7.30am...then of course you have to wait till your room is ready at 2.00pm...this you don't want...so we thought we'd be clever and book and pay for our room from the night before so it would be there ready for us first thing in the morning when we got there...I think we must have been dreaming ROTFL!!!! On our way from the airport my hubby and I were giving ourselves sideways looks and saying "what's the bet they sold our room last night" so typical of the Thais...they had...no show...sell the room!!! Anyway Mike jumped up and down a bit and and showed them our documentation with proof that we'd paid for the room the night before and within half an hour they had given us an upgrade...so it worked out ok!
Ahother time we stayed at Baan Sukhotai...With their tea-making facilities they included a Benjarong Mug, base and lid...I wanted a cup the same...so I went out and bought one for 400 Baht...I made myself a cuppa the next morning and I smashed the base...I called in at the reception to ask if housemaid would come and clean up the broken crockery...well then they thought it was their cup...I was trying to tell them that I had bought the cup...they thought I was saying I would buy a cup to replace...but she didn't want that she wanted 1k to replace theirs (which she thought I had broken) I had to take her to the room to prove that I hadn't broken their cup!!! It all worked out!!
Not one of these places would I not stay at again.
IMHO these types of incidences are common and best not to become heated and try to bridge the communication gap.
The only complaint I would have about the Patong Villa is that they don't have a lounge/sofa suite in their Sweet Suite...they just have two dining-type chairs and a very small round table inbetween...cries out for a sofa and a lounge chair...oh and the bed was a bit hard...pretty petty stuff really and nothing that would stop me from going back!!
BTW one of my sons lost their room key at Patong Beach Hotel...they charges us 1.500...that was three years ago...we paid for it no problem no questions...I spat chips at my son when I got home to find that the little sh*t had actually sourvanired it...naughty boy!!
Also the first thing we do when we move into a hotel room is empty the minibar of everything ourselves...we do our shopping daily at the Plaza or 7/11...then when we check out they load the fridge back up only to find there's nothing missing...no problem!!! If at any stage you nick a beer or a water...just replace it in your shopping list the next day...noone's the wiser.
Caution Some "up-market" hotels place a seal on their bottles and cans to identify them...so replacing them in this case is not possible.
Marcia

Good post M&M and thanks for that.
Just as a matter of interest: Is that back passage (Fnar Fnar!) from the PV to Bangla past Soi Sea Dragon still open since the Fire at Soi Croc?
Just wondering! As much as I like the banter in the 'Tunnel of T-Shirts' I still like to sneak out the back now and again! Thanks

Certainly not the worst place to stay, but I will not recommend the place to any of my visiting friends from now on.
To witness a receptionist giving my friend sh*t, in an aggresive manner cos they fcuked up is not good, and certainly left a bad taste. i'm sure most people who stay there have no issues, but the few that have seem to have had a pretty crappy experience.

Seems to be too many bad reports coming back lately, if I was still there I would go and have a chat with Sursak myself, to make sure he is aware of whats going on.

OK. Problems that you have in other places also, like paying for lost key, brownish water (I had that sometimes in Phuket Cabana also), but there must be something wrong with the staff.

Sounds like a good idea Steve. They should be made aware of potential problems in thier 'Customer Relations' department. All seems to be eminating from the Front Desk.
This is a 5 page - 161 replies thread now on just the Patong Villa. It would be a great tool for Surasak to read and take the necessary action as required.
I personally have never had a problem there after 5 stays and Surasak keeps bringing the price down for me on return visits. That is good business acumen in my book.
I just try to get the Front Desk girls laughing with my stupidity and poor attempts at the Thai language and they seem to forget the little things like the odd bottle of water and even several cups of coffee and a few meals I had there the last time!

I agree...the hotel was generally good, the room was clean and big enough..its very gf and for the price you cant complain too much...i'm not a petty man niever
But its the little things..the odd snid comments/ looks from staff at reception...i can take the banter from the traders, its all part of it
but what did it for me wasnt the extra 7000 baht bill which i paid no probs but the cheak of trying to get and extra 80 baht out of me as i try to leave
THAT IS NOT THE WAY TO GET REPEAT BUSINEES
nothing too upsetting for me, just thought you lot should know

Many a good business has been ruined by poor staff PR.
It sounds like the good reports generally come from those who know the owner, which will mean the front desk crew will not try anything on with them.
Have to say, its the bad reports here that discounted PV as a potential hotel to stay for me on my recent trip (why risk the possible hassle).
Considering how many guests browse this place, potential trade lost could be huge, so someone should have a word with the chap if they can.

OK guys......I was thinking about doing this anyway..........but now I definitely will have a word with Surasak on Saturday.......point out a couple of the issues re mini bars, the girls on the desk etc (but I like these girls and always have a bit of sanook with them) and ask him if he wants to read this thread on the board.......
I will have the antenae up looking for any signs of the like of issues that have been posted.....but as I've said before..... so far I haven't encountered anything that puts me off PV........in fact I am always welcomed back here with open arms.........and enjoy my stay

Sorry, I can't help you...as I said another BM mentioned it...We were there last August and I thought we hadn't found it...but upon discussion with my hubby he says he tried to get me to go that way but I wouldn't because of my high heels...I don't remember this incident...I must have been pie-eyed...surely not...that never happens in Patong ROTF LMAO
