Patong Villa - THE WORST!!!!!

I just got back from vacation about a day ago. I am now sitting here at work typing this email. I loved my trip to LOS again. This time I went with my g/f. We visited Koh Samui, PhiPhi, and then Phuket.

Nicke, I visited you one night, I am not sure if you remember. I was the asian dude that came up to you and said I love your bar and site. Sorry I didn't have a chance to stop in again. I rarely visited Soi Eric on my visit w/ my girlfriend.

Here is the problem w/ Patong Villa. Their hotel staff cleaning and waiters were great. But the management I always found 'em to be a bit rude. This time around was the worst!!! I booked my hotel with Patong Villa due to the fact that it was convenient and their rooms were clean and nice. BUT NEVER EVER AGAIN!!! Here it goes : I booked my stay with them from Dec. 28 to January 2nd. And then extended my vacation to Jan 6th. So the four nights my g/f and I were switched from room to room. Paid every night we left a room.

So the last day of our stay with them January 6th, 2006 at 5pm. The Indian/Thai looking girl (young) came up to us and said we needed to come and pay for our bills. We ran inside to take care of it. They were holding our luguage because check out time was at noon and our flight was not until 8 pm. We arrange with the hotel to take us to the airport. So there we were my g/f and I about to pay the bill. When presented with a separate bill for a water that was taken from the mini-bar.

We immediately looked at each other and trying to recall if one of us drank that water bottle they claimed we drank. Nope, neither of us drank it. But they kept accusing us of drinking it. I tried to ask the girl a question but she kept saying we drank the water. My g/f tried and the girl would not listen. I was fed up because she called us a liar in front of people and would not listen to a word I said. She screamed at me to "LISTEN" and that was the last straw. I was not going to put up with this snotty b*tch anymore. I screamed back at her "YOU LISTEN!!! to me!!! i had enuff of your b.s. and your treatment towards me and my girlfriend." I was fired up and was screaming at her and people from outside the hotel heard. And she screamed back at me.

Then the manager came in, she started screaming at me w/o even checking her information. So now I had two *****es screaming at me. I stormed outta the hotel and forcibly push the rotating doors. The manager and the girl would not listen to a word we said. I was on a rampage at this time, I was screaming at both of them. I lost it, 10 to 15 minutes of the ***** calling us LIARS and ThIEVES. The girl now turns to the manager and tells her how we were going to run off w/o paying in THAI. And my g/f can understand thai very well but cannot speak too fluently. The young ***** was calling us names right in front of us. My g/f turned to her and said " ARE YOU STUPID? I can undrestand every word you are saying". But this did not mean anything she kept insulting us.

I immediately paid for my room and that was it. No car service or water bill. Then the manager turned to me and "do you want teh car service.." at this time I was headed to my belongings. I would not answer her so she told the security guard to "THROW THEIR SUITCASES IN THE STREET" in thai. My girlfriend was like "WHAT???"?? I have never been soo embarrassed in my life. I have been called a cheat and a thief.

So now I am in the middle of reporting PATONG VILLA to the TAT of Phuket and Thailand. We have our aunt the lawyer consulting with the hotel now to get a formal written apology from the OWNER. When my g/f aunt called them this morning. The manager had the nerve to say she was not in the office when we were yelling!! When clearly the ***** came out and said "I am the manager... " and started screaming at us. She verbably apologized to my g/f's aunt but this will not do. We need further action for their behavior.

Here comes the funny part, the bill indicated that the room # was 330, which we were never IN!!! We recorded all the rooms we were in, and that was not one of them. Its funny how they were quick to blame and scream us w/o checking their records.

I must say "PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM PATONG VILLA!!!!" Even last year they tried to raise the rates on me upon arrival. Until I presented 'em with a letter from the manager stating this is how much I was expected to PAY.

STAY AWAY FROM PATONG VILLA. THE WORST MANAGEMENT!!!!! NEVER AGAIN WILL I STAY WITH THEM..

Sorry to hear about your treatment at PV Wildone. Hope you get the apology you seek. It was pointed out to me on my arrival there last time that bottled water would be supplied daily at no cost (unless it was tonic water) Two bottles appeared daily and it wasn't on my bill. Surprised they tried to charge you for it.

Time to move on for you I guess. Keep us posted on progress.

Two bottles are free, then I think it's 40baht for local stuff.

Not worth screaming about really but this is the second post in the last couple of months from a "non-white" BM about poor treatment while checking out of PV.
I would also say that I was treated very well in Nov, also extending my stay by a few days at a time.

You decided to have all this trouble over 1 bottle of Mini Bar water. What would it have cost you, $2-3 US? (just looked at everyone else's post and it would have been less that $1.)

Yes, I know, the principal of the whole situation. But all that over $2 or $3. And now all of the extra stuff you are having to do to get an apology.

I was in Boracay in December at the disco in the Boracay Regency Hotel with a bunch of friends. One of my friends got sick and left with his girlfriend. As I was leaving later that evening the waitress and manager came running up to us outside and said we had not paid for our drinks. I asked for the bill, politely, knowing full well that I had paid for each round that I bought seperately. Well my friend had bought 1 last drink, I guess, and forgot to pay for it when he rushed out. The bill was for 200 pesos, less than $4, so I paid it and left.

What was the use of fighting with them and ruining my night later on. When I finally saw my friend the next day he told me he forgot to pay for his last drink.

You had some other problems with the resort that are valid reasons to be mad but not to cause a big huge scene over a bottle of water. Sorry, just my feelings about the situation and no matter whether you were right or not this is something that has been mentioned on the board many times about how things can escalate over nothing.

Got to agree with WildOne on this one. If a hotel rips every customer off for one or two bottles of water, every day even if it was only 40 baht then they are scamming tourists out of money. The indifferent attitude of tourists to this behaviour will only propogate it. Ive had bottles of water, beer, food, glasses and a tv tried to be charged to me on checkouts at various hotels saying that I had either damaged (glasses and Tv) or used them form the minibar when I hadnt. This happens too frequently and I can only conclude that this arises from tourists just rolling over and accepting it.

However when dealing with Thais in a confrontational situation such as this it alway pays to keep your cool, not raise your voice, smile lots and threaten immediately with TAT/police.

Loosing it is definitely the way to get your point across to Thais, yea right. Getting a lawyer involved to get an apology!!!! Right or wrong, all this agro for the price of a bottle of water, just doesnt sound right to me.

This is not just for a bottle of water or the price of 40 baht.

I would've easily paid, but I did not due to the fact that. We were insulted, and called names. If you understood the situation and losing face in front of guests. You would think differently. This can easily be argued back and forth between us members. But the PRINCIPLE of this is we were called THIEVES AND LIARS and we were going to run out w/o paying the hotel fees right in front of a large crowd. That is what pissed me off. Understand that point.

The water costs 50-75 cents US. Is it worth it to stand in the hotel for 30 minutes trying to get 50-75 cents taken off of your bill? Not for me it isn't. Yeah, if they tried to charge me for a TV that would be a different story.

And maybe the maid drank it. Well, did you leave her a tip at the end of your stay?

WildOnE got treated bad and got fed up. He then post his experience about it and letting of some steam. Whats the big fuzz....?

I had a similar experience in Bangkok at Leela Inn. Pissed me off big time too, even if it wasnt about any big money and i didnt made a big deal about it.... But it is annoying.

What if he tip the cleaner or not? Is it a reason to be ripped off, even if it is small money? No one likes to be ripped off, even if we all know how it works in LOS....

I would be mad at what they said to you but they would never have said anything if there had not been a discussion about the water.

Now, If I am understanding you correctly, they moved you to a differwent room every night. Now that I would not have been very happy about as I have lots of luggage due to scuba diving and photo equipment and once I get settled in I like to relax and not be bothered.

Why are you trying to start an argument with me? Is that worth it for you? Didn't I state that I will vacation in a different hotel?

i think the drink was the last straw, so to speak. seemed he was fed up with the service and treatment all week, and that put him overboard.
to us just sitting here it seems like a small thing, but ive been there, done that with getting fed up and yellign and screaming.
wildone always seems to write intelligent posts, so id give him the benfit of the doubt

Correct, you hit it right on the head.

The tone of voice and the way this particular girl spoke to us the whole time we were there was very disrepectful. FOr instance one night we didn't have a hotel room until 9 pm. They double booked the room, and waited for those people to leave for the airport. And yet we were charged the 24 hr rate.

I can see both sides of this discussion and no one appears the winner.

I can see WildOnes point in that he was called a thief and a liar and it was an untrue and unjust thing to say. I too would have been mad,but thats where he and I differ.
I would just pay the extra 30/40baht or whatever, knowing I had been ripped off and smile making it known I knew the game they had played.

For me the more important thing would be the constant switching of rooms that I would have protested about. That is more of a pain and I would have demanded to speak with Surasak, the owner and get the situation resolved.

If the water issue was really bugging you WildOne,why not write to Surasak and tell him of your concerns. As far as an apology goes, don't hold your breath.

I would have let the water issue thing go and paid for it and not been called a thief and liar.

It seems that WO had a lot of issues with the hotel and as Marc26 siad, that was the last straw.

I think SteveM is looking at it from the point of view that he has seen this thing happen and it can become a big problem for the farang, MIB and all that. And the only issue become the water, not how you had been treated during your whole stay. Every previous problem is forgotten.

Just be careful how far it gets next time and stay at another hotel.

I have also been paying for water I didnt drink, I brought my own water from outside and it was the same brand as they stocked and they did some mistake. I paid for that thought.

I have also got bill for phonecalls never made, I complained and they just cutted it off with no arguments at all.

I understand WildOne, unpleasant experience, but for myself water for 50B I can live with that, but faulty phonebills of 1000s baht would I not pay for.

This was in Hat Yai were I often stay during visa runs.

However, I dont think TAT can do much, sorry. I hope your next stay is more pleasant.

Apart from the water issue , you complain about being moved from room to room and having to wait until another guest checked out.
