Hi PDJ,

Add some info like where you want to be(patong, Karon, etc.), how much you want to pay, whether pool is important, walk or tuk tuk to Bangla, near beach (more expensive) or do not care, things like that and we can help you with some suggestions and also long stay places too.

Also look up guest friendly hotels thread and new thread that werewolf is putting together on accomodations

Also worthwhile starting by browsing the other posts here, as there are 1000's of discussions on accommodation.

hi .. i dont really have a place in mind. ive never been to thailand before so any advice you can give to stay would be a big help. i want to stay in phuket becouse it got a lot of english speaking people and for my first week i want to feel comfortable. i dont really want to pay more that 10 english pounds for a room becouse i want to stay in asia for about 3 months ! phuket is my first choise then later i want to go cambodia vietnam and then back to thailand .
my budgit is £2500 and thats with a return flight.am only flying to thailand and then back to england so the rest of my journey will be on bus or train.so accom wants to be as cheap as possable.but for my first week i want somthing in a way central and clean thats not gonna cost to much but if thats not possible i dont mind getting a cab a few miles in. basically i want to arrive at the airport and have no bother getting to my destination for a good sleep.

oh yeah a pool is not important..and i dont need to walk out of my room on to a beach..
like i said i just need a starting point.

Look at the hotels on this website to get an idea of basic costs. For example, Juntana Resort is about $19US 10 GBP a night up to end of October for long stays of a month or more and $21 US 11.5GBP for week long stays and is walking distance to Bangla Road, the party area of Patong, which is the party area of Phuket. 300 yards to beach, A/C, pool, good place based on some reviews. You can probably find a guesthouse a little cheaper once you get there and some other BM's can give you some info.

Avoid staying out of Patong as the cab rides will increase your costs and hotels are more expensive.

And the more places to go to the more your trip will cost as the flights can be a big part of the trip.

600 pounds per month? 50000 baht per month

25000 for hotel leaves no room for a girl

so stay away from phuket. or at least from patong:P haha because that will cost you more like 15000 baht per week without the room:P

in kata you might get accomodation for 400 a night but in patong?

Very very tight budget to be in Phuket..

2500 GBP then minus flights.. Damn.. How much are your flights.. Leats say that leaves 2000, thats one month of party or 2 months of taking it easy in Patong.

Sure there will be 500 baht rooms but thats only a small part of your costs..

no i wont be getting flights anywhere.apart from my flight to phuket from england am gonna look out for cheap flights.ive seen flights for somtimes about 6 or 7 hundred pounds then that will leave me with £1800 for accom and bus fares.am not going to go mental in phuket i`ll prob only be there for a couple of weeks then off to somwhere else its more about traveling and seeing places than drink and girls but that will also be an option but it is`nt gonna take up my budgit i`d rather spend it on getting around than partying.

There are many others 'traveling' in the region (SE Asia) so I wouldn't be too worried about finding english speaking folks to go drinking with - many of the locals you encounter will also speak english.

If your trip really is more about traveling than partying then I'd recommend you leave the Phuket/Pattaya stage 'til the end when you've done/seen what you came for - this is what I generally do if I'm on a 'backpacking' trip.
Both these places are relatively expensive and you'll be more relaxed at the end of the trip not having to worry about making your money last.

Also, make sure the tickets you buy allow the return date to be changed at little/no cost, just in case you do run out of money - the very cheapest ones may not allow this.

The ticket your after is an open return, more expnsive than a fixed date return but kind of necessary for your plans.. Try westeasttravel (or eastwesttravel) listed a few times on here.. They seem pretty good prices..

Your budget does appear tight as a tourist.. Advice to stay out of Phuket until you have done some travelling about is wise.. Other areas tend to be a lot cheaper..

Someone wrote earlier that you may have problems with the airline incase you dont have a return ticket.

One option would be to take a last minute charter with hotel included, i got my last minute ticket for 490£ (In December) thats including 22days at hotel. And incase you dont wanna go home when that period is over then just call your travel company and say that you are not gonna go home that day. And buy a new ticket yourself when you are planning to leave. But ofcourse that requires that you find a cheap last minute ticket.

That works out at about 2300 Baht per day, so did your package include meals at the hotel. Would still find this quite tight and I don't like to count the pennies when on holiday.

how much do you think i should budgit myself for food and accom for 3 months?
forget drink ! the more i drink the less time i have over there so i`ll just take it easy with the partying.my main concern is accom and food for the 3 months.

in phuket? or travelling around?

Why not plan where you want to go and then see if your budget stretches to it.
Accommodation/food/transport are all very variable costs - for example while I'm quite happy to sleep the cheapest places, I would pay almost any amount to fly instead of spending, say, 15 hours on a bus.
Have a look at the the forums on the lonely planet website to get an idea of costs/itineries in the various countries you are looking at.

for 3 months? you stated before it was more about travelling and seeing places .....
http://www.passplanet.com/Asia/the_countries.htm - gives a reasonable overview of places in Asia with some costs (Vietnam is the glaring ommission).

My advice would be to make your first trip to SE Asia a bit shorter. A bit of a recon shall we say. That way you would get an idea as to the way things happen over there and, I am sure, you will gather a wealth of information for your next trip. My first trip to LOS completely blew my mind (2weeks) but the information and experience I got has been invaluable to me on all the trips since then. You cannot help but have a good time whichever way you decide to go!
