I used these guys on my last trip early Dec....
The flight over was a great time...leaving midday and arriving that evening in Phuket...
Coming back was a B*tch...For some reason very uncomfortable...had a spare seat next to me..but just felt weird...When I travel on other flights overnight it seems okay...
Biggest dissapointment was TV and Cabin crew...
Tv were not clear and not well positioned..and cabin crew were 30-40 year olds and mostly guys...

My next trip in MAR will be with Singapore or Thai...a little bit more but well worth it.

cheers

Interesting to hear some feedback on AO, as havnt heard from anyone. They are the old unwanted 767-300's from Qantas an they have done a bloody lot of work.

As far selecting between Singapore and Thai, Singapore has to win as it's a much shorter trip, and a transit in Singapore beats Bangkok hands down.

Syd-Phuket Direct Flights

Aussie, I just booked my trip to LOS last week.
I searched high & low chasing a direct flight from Syd to Phuket.
My research showed me that these direct flights cease after 31st Jan.
I myself have a shocker of a flight, leaving Syd, to Melb, then BKK, then Phuket.
The only consolation is leaving Syd at 22.00 & arriving next morning at 6.30.I should be in Phuket by 9.30. (no BKK stayover)
I figure a few beers at the airport & a coupla more onboard may be suffice to make me sleep the majority of the flight.
I don't have a breakdown of costs....Flying with Thai & staying 14 nights at Horizon Beach Resort....April....$1,730
I can't complain about that....
Booked my trip thru Flight Centre

My god your going the long way around. Get your butt onto Singapore Airlines, leave Sydney at around midday, 1 hour connection in Singapore and your in Phuket at 1930 that same night.

Cool

Who do fly to pHuket from Singapore with Steve? I would be interested but never seem to see the deals that make it worth going through Singapore. As for Australian Airlines I have been told that the travel agents and Qantas want to continue the direct flights as they are in high demand but discussions are still taking place. The agents at Qantas holidays have been pushing them to continue as they are a good seller. Last year they offered several direct flights from June through to August and are looking at least doing that if they dont have something more permanent in place before hand. And then again throughout Christmas. I hope they can organise something sooner than later I would like to start organising for MAY/JUNE.

There is another Boeaing 767 to be transfer from Qantas mainline to Australian Airlines in the very near future, so this could then allow them to operate the Phuket flights.

Cool

Just another quick one mate the flights that you suggested when I do a search leaving Sydney mid day and then return 6.00am on the return date look like decent flights without the large transit time but the prices that I come up with in the search are crazy. Should I be doing something else like ringing them or waiting until the fares are advertised and asking for that flight? Only ever flown British ,Qantas, Thai.Fare for 2 Adults: 8,592.00
Taxes & Fees: 569.16
Total Fare: AUD 9,161.16

Fair enuf, it is a legal connection as Singapore Airlines allows it. Having said that I have missed the connection once though, but a free night in Singapore is OK. The other option is to leave Sydney at 0830 and have 4 hours in Singapore, easy to kill time there.

Goto the singapore airlines web site, www.singaporeair.com as they do have web special fares, but be warn pretty tight conditions as to changing.

Even going with Malaysian Airlines via KL is quicker and shorter than your epic journey, doesnt matter you'll still get there. That wasnt a bad flight, when it went direct Melbourne/Phuket.

So many options

Yeah guys...alot of interesting ways of getting to LOS...
The four times I've been have been on different carriers and routes...I have them in order of preference;

1. Sydney - Singapore(Gulf Air) then Air Asia to Phuket..return Same as forward journey(over night stay in SIN)...(paid $500 industry special for that month only)

2. Sydney-HongKong(Qantas)(work related) then HongKong-Bangkok-Phuket(Thai) return leg Bangkok-Sydney(Brittish)(trip cost $1300)

3. Sydney - KL(Austrian) then AirAsia to Phuket..return same as forward journey(Overnight stay in KL)(Paid $800 industry rates)

4. Sydney - Phuket(Australian) then same return.... (I paid $1150 for this..the plane was horrible)

My next trip in Late FEB will be only for 10-14 days...I want to fly to SIN with Singapore but need to get to Sukothai.. Phuket is not in my plans(at this stage)...Bangkok would be more convenient...So THAI would probably be the go..

From now on..I will pay a little extra for the quality of travel...thats why the major airlines stand out for me..

Singapore Airlines

I always take the midday flight to Singapore, 45 to 60 minute lay-over then the Silkair flight to Phuket. Gets in about 7:30 pm Phuket time.
This is a great flight with minimal jet-lag.
However, coming back, you leave Phuket about 8PM, couple of hours in Singapore, then the 0:30 night flight to Sydney. This one always knocks me around with jet-lag.
Next trip Feb, cost just over $A1000.00 return including taxes.
Booked online through Harvey World Travel.
Steve.
