Transit procedure at Changi airport!?
G'day learn'ed BM's,
I'm coming over to LOS/MTB from Australia early March using Qantas & Tiger airways with the changeover at Changi. Not being a seasoned traveller can you'se please confirm if I've got the below procedure right for Changi?-
7.30pm arrive with Qantas at Terminal one with my carry on bag, & not collecting my other luggage at this time,
10.30pm bed down at the airport transit hotel terminal 1 (already booked)with a 4.15am wake up call,
4.30-5.30am go through Singapore Customs and proceed to the Lost/found/unclaimed baggage desk? and collect my other luggage (1 port),
By 6.00am front the Tiger airways desk and collect my Phuket boarding pass,
6.15am Go back through customs??? to get to Terminal 1 to board the Tiger flight which leaves for Phuket at 7.00am.
8.00am go through Thai customs and make a vee line accross the carpark for the metered taxi to Patong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Have I got this right or am I going to be
Look forward to shouting you guys a beer at the MTB.
Cheers
Chris

I read this before but wasnt going to say anything. There are 2 things which could present a problem
1) uncollected luggage, in this day and age I'm not sure what they would do with the lugagge.
2) its highly unlikely, but you may get some grief from immigration about why you have not cleared immigration for so long. Maybe an idea to pick a recent arrival flight and write that on your arrival card. If asked for boarding pass you cant find it. If asked for ticket, you had an eticket.

Your luggage should go straight through and you should not have to go through customs.
I did changi terminal 2 from phuket and stayed overnight in transit hotel(recommended by steven Thanks)for flight to UK.
No baggage or customs for me or have I misread your post ?
I think it is easier if you can stick with the same airline for both legs
ie You get your boarding pass for both legs at your original departure point.
correct me if im wrong

Thats the whole point of his post, he is connecting to a low cost carrier which DO NOT have any through connecting argreements with other carriers. In this case you must clear immigration and customs and then recheck in

Steve,
Thanks for your advice thus far. Today I emailed Changi airport and am waiting to hear back from them. The procedure I stated is what is stated on the Changi airport site. Hope they can confirm or clarify this.
Thanks
Chris (25 sleeps to go)

Give Qantas a ring and explain what your planning, I'm sure they have heard it all before.

One advice. Collect your luggage right away to avoid problems
Further no problems there. Just ask there. Never had problems and even went there for the the city at night. They specially opened the customdesk for me because Changi is closed during the night (even the shops)

there is a problem. before you collect your lugguage, you would need to pass throught immigrations. after that you have to get out, meaning you will be in singapore proper.
to re-enter the terminal building, transit area, you would need a boarding pass from tiger airways. this is you would need to check with tiger if they would allow early check-in.
maybe you can call or write to tiger to find out more. cheers.

They only issue boarding passes for current flights, that is 2 hours or so before departure.

Timing Flight Departure Times !
Hi there . . .
I will be flying over to Phuket from NZ on March 24th. My Singapore Airlines flight to Singapore, leaves Auckland, NZ at five minutes after midnight March 24.
The flight is about 10 1/2 hours from Auckland to Singapore, and, allowing the time differences between the two, I arrive at Changi at 6.40am, March 24. That is great for me, as I then connect with Silk Air, from the same terminal (Terminal 2) that I arrived at, and fly a further 1 hour 45 minutes to Phuket, leaving Changi at 8.50am.
No stop-over necessary.
This will mean that I will be in Patong, at my Hotel, (Airport Pick-Up), again allowing for another 1 hour time adjustment between Malaysia and Thailand, about Noon, at the very latest.
Cheers

I got the below reply back from an official at Changi airport. Hopefully I should be right.......
Dear Chris,
With regard to your query on 10 February 2006, there is no check-in counter for Tiger Airways in the transit area. You have to clear Immigration and Customs and proceed to Tiger Airways Check-in Row 4 at the Departure Hall in Changi Airport Terminal 1. As such, you will have to go by your option B. Please rest assured that your baggage at the Lost and Found counter are held in a security restricted area under surveillance.
We wish you a pleasant trip and we look forward to receiving you at Changi Airport.
Warmest regards,
Marlina Abd Rahman (Ms) – Airport Management Executive – Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore - Tel: +65 6541 2938 - Fax: +65 6546 3566

Whatever it is , nothing much can go wrong in Changi Airport. So not to worry even if you got the procedures all mixed up. The staff there will be able to assist you in everyway they can. Have a good trip!

Sure, but its nice to have an answer to this question as it is very likely to come up again, and what with the increase flying of the low cost carriers and more people connecting from International flights.

One other thing to keep in mind guys, in the near future the new "Budget Temrinal" will be opening in Singapore, so it wont be as easy as it is now to transfer to a budget flight. There will be some ground transport involved in getting from T1 and T2 to BT.
