My worst is without doubt Air France(sorry any French members )
I knew it was going to be bad when I got to Heathrow T2 and with an hour to go ,the check-in desk had a queue 100metres long and no staff. No time for duty free, the plane left very late.Arrived at CDG Paris for a truly depressing airport.Just made the connecting flight to Abu Dhabi (100miles from Dubai UAE) A scheduled stop at Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and we waited for ages on the tarmac for take off again. An engine fault meant a delay of 3hrs and we cooked with doors open in 46C.No drinks or apologies.Food was crap and the English speaking person certainly got poor cabin staff attention. Arrived in Abu Dhabi 3hrs late and waited for baggage.Only one suitcase of two arrived.Wife and children had nothing but the clothes they arrived with.
Promised case next day....nothing.Rang Air France at airport...Oh next flight tomorrow!Suitcase arrived ripped open and clothes missing.Checked insurance not worth the paper it was printed on.All in all Air France sucks and I know of two other people with similar problems.
And the best Qatar Airways.....brilliant.
I will find out about Singapore Airlines very soon
Dawsey
I agree, but don't forget they are government employee, AIr France is a nationalized company. they are on strike whenever you need them, I also had a bad experience with them, 9 hour delay, change of airport at 2am, everything closed in the airport, no magazines, no food, no nothing. they gave us a $15 voucher to eat, I asked where? On our flight back we were late and we got upgraded to 1st class. But still. The worst now is American Airlines, the stewardess are been trained by the mossad I believe, my 4 year old daughter was warned that she was transgressing federal law of aviation because she couldn't stay still in the plane and kept running in the alley.

Any charter airline - as they sqeeze in far 2many seats. For Example britannia 767's have 2 more emgerancy exits than any other 767 in the air because of the seats they cram in

Worst flight with some discount airlines I forgot the name. we are waiting to board in Dakar Senegal, everybody is standing up looking at the plane, suddenly all the kerosene from one wing start pouring on thr runway under the plane. Everybody goes wild. we're about 40 meters from the plane so if the kerosene lights up... Airport crew comes put something over the runway refuel the plane, then we board. During the flight, everybody starts smoking around me, I'm being told by the stewardess that I am sitting the smoking section!!! What? I had specified non-smoking of course. then water from the ceiling start dripping on me, stewardess comes around says it's perfectly normal for this to happen since the ice inside the plane is melting... Then she starts serving free booze to passenger she only fancy... 6 hours of hell to Paris.

The worst, Aeroflot, Uzbekistan, Royal Jordanian & of course Phuket Air.
Delays, lies, missing luggage, long queues at check in.

The best, Singapore, Malaysian, Thai.
Although I must say that the attitude of the cabin staff on Thai seems to have declined over the last year. Has anyone else noticed this??

Worst a tie - Air Cubana (Cuban national airline) - vsmall seats, no leg room (unless you are seriously vertically challenged), service & food terrible plus v old planes, and Phuket Air ('nuf said).
Best - Ethihad - great flight/food/service etc etc plus great price.

I can't think of a really bad flight or airline. I guess the Brittannia flights were tough, charter airline doing longhaul, but all the others have been ok.

China Airlines scared me a bit, a noisy old MD11 being flown by an excitable Italian, but I think most scheduled flights are ok. I've never been hugely delayed or inconvenienced though, maybe that would change my view.

For me the worst would be Continental, Aeroflot & Pakistan International Airways in no particular order. Also flew with a domestic airline in China once but can't remember the name - I'll never do that again for sure

The best would be Cathay Pacific, Lufthansa (only business class and only with the 100% flat beds) and probably Swiss (also only their business class). For economy class Singapore and SAS are pretty good.

One airline I always wanted to try is this one :P http://www.hootersair.com/

Best for me were Singapore and Malaysian. Paid a bit more but well worth it.

Had bad experiences with BA , both delays and cancelled flight once (although it was for a safety reason).

I did book with Phuket Air once, but got a refund as travel agent never told me about re-fuel stop on way back ie not a direct flight. It added about 3 hours onto the flight stopping somewhere in the mid east. They turned out to be the biggest bunch of cowboys to fly from what I have read, and are now banned from UK .It seems most people have problems with the cheap carriers.

Dont be a cheap charlie and go with a reputable airline

There are two commercial airlines now operating between Amman, Jordan and Baghdad and one between Baghdad and Dubai...................Royal Jordanian and the other................IraqAir. I know someone earlier in the thread thought Royal Jordanian to be a lousy carrier but in comparison with IraqAir! Well, there is no comparison.

I'll let the pictures do most of the talking with regard to this airline! It's a 19-20 hour drive to Jordan or a 40 Minute flight from Baghdad. I'm sometimes tempted to run the gauntlet of the drive!

That's Baghdad airport in the picture, they arrive at about 10,000 feet because of the RPG threat (Rocket Propelled Grenades) and decend by doing very tight loops within the airport perimeter which is alledgedly secure! It's always good fun watching the first timer flyers when this happens. Lots of reaching for the old sick bags, if they have remembered to replace them from the last trip!

My last trip home from the LOS with British Airways made me embarassed to be British I am very sorry to say. Poor service, lousy food, cabin dirty and poor leg room. I did ask for a comments card and needless to say, I wasn't very complimentary. Come on British Airways, you can do better than that.

Almost a year ago I posted the following:

My worst flight ever was with Biman Airlines from Bangladesh. Last winter, after the tsunami, when I had to fly back from LOS to The Netherlands, I had to change the plane in Dhaka(Bangladesh). They simply told everyone in the plane to give out there passports and that the originaly planned stop off 4 hours was now 15 hours. Everyone had the choice of keep there passport and staying at the airport or to be transferred to a hotel in Dhaka. All the passengers decided to go to the hotel.(Big mistake) The hotel was actualy a jailhouse. We where locked up and could not go out of the hotel(they said they could not guarrantee our safety), the only fluid in the house was water. We had to give the guard money, so he could go out to buy some coca cola for us. With the coke and our tax free alcohol from BKK we survived. The next morning the breakfast was terrible and there where another 4 hours of delay. The whole trip from LOS to Holland took me about 38 hours. People of Biman turned out to be very unfriendly. The initial thing that made me book with them was the price of the flight(about 500 euro middle of December), but never again.

***********************************

This winter I flew Dusseldorf-Tehran-BKK with Mahan air from Iran and I must say the quality/price relation was quite good. The only backdraw: In Tehran all our alcoholic drinks where stolen from us(all the passengers).

I also remember a very bad domestic flight with Merpati(Indonesia). It was a flight from the Island of Flores to Lombok. Because the plane was not completely full the pilot had to rearrange the people in the plane in order to divide the weight more equaly. And when we where in the air it turned out that a lot of Indonesians had taken small animals into the cabin. Every airpocket the plane went trough the chickens started to make a lot of noise. When you sitting at home telling the story to your friends it makes a good story, but when you are actualy there it's different.

Cheers,

Raval

This one scared me a bit. That is the pilot sat in the doorway smoking tabs.

It was a ride home from the Isle of Man and I'd never been in this sort of plane before. The week after I flew in it the landing gear failed: full on fire crews racing alongside it in their shiny truck etc. Not good.

Liat

LIAT (luggage in another terminal) is the small airline that hops between islands in the carribean. We were on Antigua and due to a **** up at the travel agent the jumbo was in barbados. It was late August 1992... Hurricane season

The plane was a small type aircraft - turbo prop to the cogniscenti. I knew something was up when the pilot asked me if I knew how to fly a plane.... The co-pilot was being sick and the single stewardess was on her knees praying. All of which instilled enormous confidence!

The co-pilot was taken to the back and I sat in his seat and spoke to the control tower in barbados reading out our very drifting position in the thunder storm. When we finally landed the crew handed out a rum toddy!

I will never forget it!

Mac

Worst airline for me was Pan Am when it was in business. Arrived hours early for flight LA to Sydney and put my luggage into a locker. Came back when they started boarding and the locker wouldn't open. By now most people had boarded and the Pan Am counter staff were just taking among themselves. When I told them of my problem, they just mumbled something about a phone number displayed 50 yards away, "not our problem". Got onto someone who would take 45 minutes to get the locker open. I said if I miss my flight I have to stay here half a week for the next flight. Got there in 15 min, opened the locker, and demanded identification. Whizzed passed the disinterested counter staff to an almost taxyiing plane.

I think my first post post that doesn't contain sex or adult themes.
