Low season..worth it?

I'm looking at squeezing one more trip to LOS around 4-5 May for 9 days, which is officially low season i think, cheaper flights and hotel prices anyway and my last likely chance this year to get out there for a quick run (personal stuff etc)

Worth coming out around then or will Patong be a ghost town with everything shut and start thinking of elsewhere?
Planning on booking ahead with flight/hotel unless anyone has a better suggestion.

To be honest May is one of the quietest months of the year, still not bad for a holiday. May and September is what I rate as quiet months of the year, but still enjoyable for visitors.

So the ratio of girls to guys is the best

Cheaper flights, cheaper hotels, cheaper suits?

How about the weather in May. Very hot with showers?

I love low season and mid season.. I even enjoy rainy season for the cooler air and the excuse to have to dive into the nearest bar for cover as a surprise shower hits !!!

Prices are more reasonable.. Towns not so busy... Your favorite stool is free.. The girls remember your name..

This last high season was too much for me..

Low season..worth

Yes more and more thinking of planning my trips outside the high seasoon.
To be onest trips in desember, april etc can be little to match of the good some times.

Think the best time is July and this year very good since al the jerks are in germany for soccer VM

But the downside is that most of the BM go high seasoon, and its always fun to meet people from this board

I think nearly all residents favour the low season but the fun part of high season is having so many lads around together..

This year meeting Alfie and DM was a real pleasure and I hope to see them again on other tours.. IJ Ali and Bono are always great to meet.. so the plus of High season is so many lads all out together tends to get that more mental feeling.. But apart from the company everything else just makes me nuts..

That 'if another drunk bastrad bumps into me, stands on my toes, etc' vibe starts to make you feel a bit violent and claustrophobic in the Bangla bars.. Of course thats said as a non bar owning BM.

I think it is a great advantage to come in low season. First of all, room prices are about 50% less.....which leaves more money for the important things...and secondly, the ladies are not nearly as picky.....much easier and quicker to have your next close encounter.

Low season is always the best - especially if you live here and aren't dependent on the tourist trade.

I couldn't agree more.

I had 5 tour's in 2005. I had wonderful experiences during all trips. However, having now been in Patong, during Cristmas and New Years...I don't think I'll make that visit again.

Too busy. Too many people. Too expensive. Too, Too, Too, you know!

I'll be present for Songkran, this year. And, I understand that it is quite a "busy" event, as well. I hope, NOT as busy and crowded as the XMAS holiday's.

Just got an email, from my hotel. (confirming schedule)

He said, it is still quite "busy", in Patong.

Good for all the business's.

I have been to LOS alot of time in low season and it has allways been a good holiday for me,because i dont really like the place when its to crowded,I have just returned 2 weeks ago and yes it´s still quite busy there and i´m really glad to return again in May when it´s more quiet.
Pablo i guess that we are ussing the same hotel when we are in Patong,i also just get a mail from Mr. Roman and everything is ready for my arrival the 5th May.

Cool Better than nothing

Paul:

I would normally advise don't come here for less than three weeks but as I know your situation - screw it come back and enjoy yourself.

While you are at home you can bone up on some trivia questions.

Good thread, answered my question about going there during low season and now worries are gone I have heard the amont of girls is much lower but if the ration between girls and guys is better I can be happy for that.

May is usually good weather but yes, is one of the hottest times of the year and I feel sometimes is too hot. I like to use my tables outside the bar but I guess I will stay inside the bar in May. (With fans)

Hi Nicke,

I think May and October are the rainy months of the year, as I can read from the meteo history. But as you stay in Phuket you know better and give maybe hints about the best month of the year in low season.

I stayed in Kata already in June 2004, July 2005 and September 2005 and had all time better weather than in November 2005. I like it more than high season. It is partly cloudy, so the sun is not so strong, the waves are better (surfing on Kata Beach), hotels are cheap, you have a lot of space on the beach (meet only expats in the morning who give you more interesting topics for discussion than the neckermaenner). Some beach restaurants are closed, especially KataNoi is dead, you feel there like a private guest on a deserted island. If I can choose, i prefer sommer holiday on Phuket.

I like all seasons in Phuket -- low season is still fun to party and the surf is definitely up (if you can avoid the riptides it is fun as hell swimming, battling the waves, etc. - high season is too much like a swimming pool....nice but boring...).

That said, last night definitely had a low season feel to it. Had a very solid downpour for one Singha and a half, then a little drizzle for a while. The place is not exactly crowded, nor busting at the seams either, but the people here seem to be having fun, myself included!

I try to get over here as often as I can!

Cheers, Robaht
