Travel to Myanmar (Burma) Visa Question.

This time around I plan on traveling to Myanmar for 1 or 2 nights. I am originally from this country but I am considered an American Citizen for a long time now. I do understand my country is not very fond of visitors especially Ex-Burmese. I would like to know how I can obtain a visa? Should I do it here in the states, or just do it while I am booking the trip in Thailand? I remember two years this travel agent told me it would be like $200 round trip w/ visa. I wonder if that holds true to this day. And I looked up the flights on airasia and they only charge 999 baht per trip. So it would be drastically less than bookingn with TATs.

Thanks again guys,

and remember.. NO MORE PATONG VILLA for me!!! Trying to find another hotel to stay this time.

Google found this link, and sort of looks offical http://www.myanmarvisa.com/

Always best to rely on offical information when talking about visas, instead of hand me down info.

Visa on arrival for Burma is not official but is run by some well connected travel agents, so it should be ok but there were some problems with it late last year (don't think anyone was refused entry though) - you'll get the most uptodate info on this on the lonely planet forums.
Visa issued by embassy in US should be around $20 and be processed pretty quickly (I've done it in the UK and it was 4 days from posting to receiving).

Just had a look at the link from stevem

It does say $20 for a 28 day visa but if your only going for 1 or 2 nights have a look at the heading for visa run from thailand you can also have a 3 day visa in Mynamar for $5 at the border.

The border visas are usually very limiting though - normally you can't travel outside the immediate vicinity of where you crossed.
