Good quality but 'central' hotel
Recently stayed at the Hilton in Hua Hin and really liked the fact that you could walk anywhere in town as it is slap bang in the centre.
Will be going to Phuket soon and fancy staying in, or within easy walking distance to Patong. Where would you guys recommend staying ?
In terms of quality, we don't mind paying 'Meridien' rates, but wouldn't pay Banyan Tree rates ! (Don't want to be as far out as Meridien though ....)
Thanks in advance.

I think the Holiday Inn is what you are looking for - place looks nice and I'm sure the rooms are good, many ocean view rooms. Not sure of prices though. There a few very good threads discussing hotels, use the search engine to find more suggestions....

Personaly I would say that the Holiday Inn is great for the beach but too far to walk to the night life. My suggestion would be The Royal Paradise and from 01 April their rates drop to low season rates.

Have a read of this thread.

A few ideas here. You don't say whether you want a guest friendly place either. It makes a difference as the suggested Holiday Inn in another post is definately not guest friendly.

Hey John,
That looks really nice. Are they guest friendly? I checked their web site but it doesn't say.
Thanks

No they are not. It is always a problem looking for upmarket accomodation because they tend to be not guest friendly. If you are looking for guest friendly I would look more toward the guest house style of accomodation. Soi Saensabai has many guest friendly guest houses and they are only a a minute from the action. Guest houses I have stayed in and can recommend on this street are The Orchid Guest House, The Yorkshire Inn, Casa Summer Breeze Hotel and Cadilac Mansion. If you need the websites holler back via this thread and I will dig them up.

I dont think there are much upscale hotels that are guest friendly at all. Maybe in Pattaya but not in Phuket.

Probably the nicest boutique hotel in Patong is GF.. Baan Yin Dee.. Superb rooms and suites..
Though I agree the larger chain hotels are not.. For some reason I never liked that style of hotel anyway.. Prefer a more intimate vibve either smaller guesthouse or one off boutique hotel..

In answer to one of your questions, guest friendly is not essential ....
From the info you have provided, I think we have narrowed it down to two hotels :-
a) The Baan Yin Dee - possibly looks the nicest but in some of their pictures you can see their pool is right next to a busy road. Anyone know whether this is a problem ?
b) The Banthai Beach - also looks very nice and appears to be nearer the action. Modern rooms, although they are not overly large. I saw on one website that until mid 2006 they are undergoing extensive refurbishment including new (additional) rooms and a further pool. Anyone have further info in this regard?
Cheers guys, your input has been really helpful !

Baan Yin Dee is not on a busy road, so quiet. Must be a superb boutique hotel. A bit expensive. Marc26 has been there different times and liked it.

Further to my earlier post above, Club Andaman also looks interesting. Again, any personal views on the hotel very welcome.

With reference to your first post and IMO Baan Yin Dee is not walking distance to the beach or nightlife, Baan Thai is walking distance to the beach and nightlife and Club Anderman is walking distance to the beach but a bit too far for the nightlife.

baan yin dee is not walking distance but they have nice mercedes to drive you down whenever you need it and take a tuk tuk back
from what your asking i would highyl recommend this place. perfect for you
the road is right next to the pool, and you do hear the cars but its not that busy of a road that its a problem.
it is just one of the best experiences ive had in any hotel. im not going to stay there this time just for a change but will venture up to the piano bar in early evening. great relaxing atmosphere

Upmarket Hotels in Patong
Dear all,
there are many great upmarket hotels close to Patong. My favourites are :
Kathatani Beach Resort & Spa (only Junior Suites) or Holiday Inn ( Busakorn Wing is great).
However, there is ''NO BG friendly'' luxurios hotel in Phuket/Patong. Well if you consider luxurios as 5 star hotel. Horizon Karon Beach Resort is a 4 star, very good hotel and offers ''No joiner fee''. The only one of the better ones. But in Karon!
Al the rest is sh**t regarding Bg friendly.
I can't share the view of some members regarding Ban Yin Dee. Because very expensive, far away from everything and just not what I want if I'm looking for some fun. Yes, maybe BG friendly but still too many disadvantages !!!

update for you guys .....
After looking closely at all the hotels suggested, we have opted (and booked) a Busakorn Wing room at the Holiday Inn. The pictures of it look great and the location is very convenient for the beach, Bangla, market etc.
Thanks again for all the help, you saved us a lot of time with all your advice
Cheers
