Train service??? I thought that there was a station at the airport (Birmingham International??)
I know I should book flights for New Year ASAP, but how long should I leave it. I think I'll be going from Heathrow and Etihad have 3 flights a day from there.

I've just got my 6 week break agreed with work for next January, so I will book the flight this weekend. The outbound flight (08:40) is not convenient from Manchester, so I will probably go from Heathrow. Costs a bit more and I think the return journey has a longer stopover in Abu Dhabi.

Tried opodo, onlinetravel and airroutes. All have different results.

Try www.ebookers.co.uk Gez.
They deal with Etihad.

A flight at 09:40 is much more manageable than 08:40 so I could consider them for a September flight from Manchester.
Got any timetables for Birmingham for Etihad? The flight out of Heathrow is a good one for me, about 9 o'clock in the evening.

They do not fly out of birmingham unless there is a bmi codeshare and then it would connect to the lhr departure
Best I seen sofar is a saturday departure from LGW which means you fly 777 all the way to bkk as far as i could see

Sorry erik1,all Etihad flights stop in Abu Dhabi. There is a 1hr 10min stopover and another flight on to BKK.

That makes sense, especially if the flight you are arriving on has been delayed.LHR is notorious for missing a landing slot and going round
It won't matter too much in Abu Dhabi,as its a fairly small airport and the departure gates are all on one floor (12 gates IIRC),so no dashing from one terminal to another.
But the biggest worry is getting luggage off your flight and on to your next one in time. Thats where I have found Air France c0ck-up. So far Etihad have been good.

OK erik,point taken
I thought that Etihad have only taken delivery of one 777 into their fleet which would mean that an Airbus will be used for one part of the journey from LGW to BKK.

what i understood from the PR department is that the new planes are arriving fast (i was mentioning flying from lgw from 2nd half of may) and will be operating 777 on al outbound UK flights by the end of the year (expectation according to press statement)
The 777 is a nice plane with hugh private screens that you will love even in coral

Thats nice to know erik
I checked my itinary tonight with Etihad online, and Fidays flight from Gatwick has a 777-300 for both legs of the journey to BKK. So you were correct
Can't see me ever getting into the Pearl Zone, unless an upgrade comes my way.

Pearl zone screens are even bigger
16-17" i would say, have not measured them, and 6"1 beds (to short for my body I can tell) but yes at the moment etihad from lgw is the choice to fly

Have you enquired about an upgrade? I'm considering one as a treat to myself and wonder what sort of price it will be. I assume I have to contact Etihad direct. Anybody got any advice who and how and when I should do this.
Thanks
