Airfares from Ireland

Each year my brother travels from Ireland to meet me in Thailand where we have a right p*** up Irish style.

Normally he uses a travel agent to book his ticket. This year he was quoted a fare of more than 800 euros return which he thinks is too expensive.

As he is not computer literate I told him I would try and find something cheaper for him.

Given the high number of Irish BM using this forum I was wondering if any of you could give me the benefit of your experiences and tell me what route you use and the cost of airfares available from the ould sod to los.

Unsure about when he is trying to book but is 800 Euros expensive ??? Gone are the days of 450 Euro flights (not last minute) IMHO, China Air used to be great deals for me about 5 years ago, but my impression is thats changed..

My mother is coming out soon.. I was thinking that will cost me 450 - 500 GBP and will be from the UK so slightly shorter..

IJ and Ali will know the irish flight prices beter than me...

800-1000 Euro is about standard price this time of the year isnt it? Atleast here in Sweden it is. Can ofcourse get cheaper tickets if you are flexible.

Not sure about the Irish prices but i figure the prices cant differ THAT much.

I agree with what has been said so far, 800 euros seems pretty fair to me.

In Uk sterling that's 556.574.

My only question is which airline does he use ? Is there stopovers on the way etc.. ?

I use http://www.westeasttravel.com/user/default.asp and got my latest flight at £415 return London Heathrow - Bangkok direct on Thai Air. Thats 596.337 Euros.

Most of the usual rival sites are currently doing this price too and some even cheaper flights on Eva or china Air from Heathrow.

Perhaps it would be worth his while to book one of these and get a really dirt cheap budget flight with an airline like EasyJet from Ireland to Heathrow ?

It may work out to be a total cost of 800 euros the same but at least with Thai air he can go direct, or with Singapore Air have 1 quick stop following a pretty easy route and with good comfort on a decent airline.

We paid 570GBP today for a KLM flight on june 26th (I think) and coming back 4 weeks later. I guess from Ireland you are going to have to route through Manchester or London, so it would be a bit more. 800 euro does not sound that bad.

My ticket costed me 850€ and the route is Gothenburg-conpenhagen-Bangkok-Phuket. I assume the irish prices are about the same.

Cool China Air via Amsderdam

When i go home I fly Bangkok via Amsterdam into Dublin.Last year's fare was 32,000 Baht plus taxes. It is probably more expensive booking from Ireland.

Try some of the booking agents found in the holiday travel Sunday papers as they can turn up some good deals. In the past I always used Travelbag.

Well I dont know who he flys with but 800euro is pretty cheap, My flights at around Xmas/NewYears worked out nearly 1100euro including insurance, And my flights this time around will work out just under that... Both with Thai airways though...

The cheapest flights I had myself was with Lufthansa, And that was for last Songkran, Got them for around 760euro and they were pretty good flights..

I do know that Singapore airlines were doing specials from Ireland all over the summer from 700euro to 800euro, Actually they still have a few of them flights going if your dates are flexible enough, Also I know Gulf air and Malaysian are doing really cheap specials form Dublin all the time, From 650euro... But they both have long stop-overs and not my kind of thing to be honest..

Here's a few good websites to look through...

www.ebookers.ie
www.usit.ie
www.clubtravel.ie
www.etravel.ie

Hope that helps...

Much obliged to you blokes for taken effort to give me the benefit of your experience.

Looks like he is going to have to cough up some of his beer money on paying a little extra for his fare. I will trawl through the information given and see if I can help him save a little.

We expect to be arriving some time in June. No doubt we will call into the MTB to have a skinful. looking forward to seeing any BM on tour.

If he's thinking of flying out of ireland first instead of flying to Manchester or Gatwick why not use Ryan air to Amsterdam then book KLM to BBK or somewhere else in mainland europe.

You got a flight from Bkk to Pattaya or did you mean to Phuket?

If it was to Pattaya, You didnt need to as a taxi trip down is only 2hrs or so...

It would have saved you a lot of time and money buddy....

My brother managed to book with gulf air direct from Dublin to bangkok ex Bahrain for 714 euros which seems to be a good price.

He is as happy as a dog with two dicks at the moment.

After a tour of bangers and KO samui we will arrive in Phuket at the end of June.

Yes I seen those flights aswell, Though think its via Tahrain or at least thats what the website said, And the stopover is a bit longer than I like myself but not too shabby for 720.....
