Low season prices

I've been looking at hotel prices in Phuket and Pattaya for both high and low season.

What strikes me is that for high and low season Pattaya has a small differential in prices (10 - 20%) whereas Patong can be anything up to 50%. Is this due to the fact that Patong is smaller and the influx of visitors during peak season easily gobbles up all available rooms? Pattaya on the other hand has much more hotel accommodation and therefore does not really fill up even in high season?

Maybe Pattaya is more of an all year round resort due to the number of mongers that go there.

I think Pattaya does have a lot more hotel rooms so they do not fill up so much and they have to compete with each other all year round

You hit the nail on the head right there, although it does suffer a low season dip like anywhere in los, it does tend to have a more consistent spread of visitors.

Don't forget that it's not just mongers, russians, chinese and japanese turn up in their droves....for some reason..they love pattaya

Thumbs up Weekend playground

Also take into consideration that Pattaya is Bangkok's weekend resort and they have a steady stream of regulars.

One of the guys in the bar last night told me he is only paying 600 Baht per night in the Lamai Inn at the moment.

Patong is a buyers market in low season.

I think that one of the main reasons Sir G is that Pattaya is not as seasonal in weather as Patong........ in that it's either just a bit cooler around Dec thru to April and then a bit hotter after that.........there is not such a pronounced rainy season there as well......and the rain tends to come more towards the end of the day and last just for a short down poor or so............

It can also just piss down all day as well but just not as predictably seasonally as Patong........

The dive season drops out in Phuket after May until normally November so this greatly affects accommodation availability as well.......Pattaya's stays constant

A lot of hotels in Patong can be had at this time for half of their Xmas rate.......in Patts low season you are lucky to get a 20% reduction.......and as said above availability of rooms in Patts is far greater than Patong.......

You might want to give Jomtien Beach a look.......generally cheaper here with a swimmable beach and a much better atmosphere......and only a 20 BHT/20 minute Bht bus ride away from the madding crowd...and still enough nightlife action if you wanna take a night off from Walking st/Patts proper

you should be able to get good 3.5 star in Jomtien with a pool for around BHT1000 with breakfast per night....check out Jomtien Thani Hotel on Asia web.....good rooms, great pool, good safe system at reception + no joiner fee.........book a double room......same price as single and then you get 2 breakfast vouchers...(I know you like a bargain buddy)........55555

Thanks for useful info above. I've got 17 days booked in Patong starting 28th Dec. and may pop off to Pattaya after that for the rest of my winter break.

For a relatively sober man you sure have a bad memory G...............we met only on about 3 occasions in MTB over Xmas/NY period.......I can see I leave a lasting impression...55555!!!!

Looks like I was wasting my time listenning to your conversation about brass bands etc............come to think of it ?????............we even discussed places to go in Patts as you were heading there after Patong were you not!!!!!!!!!!

Probably be able to meet you for the first time..........again..........in Patong at Xmas/NY this year.........

the pic c/- Pablo below might help jog the memory......................otherwise yer on yer own son...........55555

I didn't really want to go, but ended up going with about 10 others. It was a laugh but I left before some of the others.

You should go and see the show when DM organises his next outing, don't sit too close to the stage 'cos the LBs come round. Johnnym had one molesting him for a while. Like I say a good laugh if you are in a crowd.

I can hardly wait to return to Patong, during low season.

Hotel price will be about 50%, of high season.

Will be able to find a bar stool, easily.

Can find a decent place to park a mototbike.

A little rain, (most days), to "freshen" the air.

Many more things I like...it just seems to be MORE "laid back".

Surin has a Strong undertow in the April-October monsoon season so the beach life there is not safe.
Sure you not pop up in Soi Sansabai they have a good swimming-pool
up there.
More fun with IJ around

And yes low seasoon is great,in the future i will go more at that time.
More chill and you feel you have hollyday in a diffrent way.
More of everything

Has anybody any plans for being in Patong during late August and September?

The BMs on tour listing (Werwolf thread) seems quiet at that time but it may be a bit early yet, just wondring if anybody has a tour lined up at that time?

Cool Cheapest so far

Just saw the sign outside Vises Hotel on Soi Sainamyen. Fan room 300 Baht per night or 3000 Baht per month.

This is only the start of low season.

Just done some sums

10 nights will cost 3,000 baht (most of you could have worked that out I'm sure )

30 nights should cost 9,000 baht but you would get them for 3,000 baht as it is a month. That is a saving of 66.67% for the monthly rate.

That is one heck of a discount - is this normal for longterm low season?

Means they are looking down the barrel of nearly no bookings.. Would rather fill a few rooms with someone (and hope to make money on the bar etc) than have the risk of short term bookings..

To think the cost of these businesses the earning season is so short..
