The real reason their fares are lower is because the UAE government pay ALL their fuel costs

. This along with aggressive pricing is leading to passengers on their routes dropping their current carriers and taking up with Etihad. Hardly surprising given that its such a new airline.
Hence the lower fares and no frequent flyer programme. I'm sure they will set one up when they are established as one of the main carriers,which IMO is only a matter of time.
Oh well, time to bin the boarding passes
