Air Asia, when is enough actually enough?

Well, I guess I've finally had enough. I don't know how many of you guys have flown air asia but I've just had enough of these guys.

I wanted to give them one last shot when I recently went up to Bangkok for a couple of days. Get to the airport and told that the flight is 1 hour delayed, OK, no problem as I'll go to Burger King and get something to eat.

Finished eating and then off to the gate to board. I get to the gate and there's no plane. No, not just delayed but the words out of their mouth to me and from others is "We really don't know where the plane is". OK, so I sit and sit. Going from Phuket to Bangkok and the flight is 3 1/2 hours delayed. That's nearly 3 trips to Bangkok that I could have done in that time.

Maybe it's just me, and I know a lot of you guys are flying International which I no longer do and you have longer lay overs but seriously.

I will now nolonger fly Air Asia, and I'm off to Bangkok again next week. OK, this time I'll try 1-2-go.

Lets see how these go do! I've heard not bad.

ARGGGGGGGGG Air Asia sucks ass!

I guess thats one of the negative things about the LCC like Air Asia.
Unlike Thai and BKK Airways, if there is a problem, they haven't back-up aircraft to cover the problem.
I know I would never trust a LCC if I had a connection to make. Just too unreliable, and there are plenty of BMs who have had problems in the past with AirAsia with delays and cancellations.
I'd always pay the extra and use Bangkok Airways.

I guess you have given Air Asia enough chances then Dingo At least you should get a seat easily to BKK with 1- 2-Go or Nok Air at this time of year.

I use "1 2 go" because they seem so much more reliable for being a Low cost Airline.

This is what happened to me last time I flew Air Asia.

I actually got a TEXT message 2 days before I left, telling me, my plane is going to be delayed by 4 hours. Now you may think, well at least they told you. But how do they know their plane is going to be late 2 days in advanced?

I would certainly only fly TG if I had a connecting flight to catch.

I am sure you will not have any problems, as well as they give you free drinks IIRC unlike AA who charge you the earth for them.

Used Air Asia a few times without problems but the cost saving is only applicable if you don't have any baggage...take over 15kgs and you get hammered.

The trouble with low cost airlines is they cut everything to the bone to be able to make money from low seat revenue and if they have a flight with very few people booked on it they would rather cancel and combine with another flight to save themselves money. I had 20 years in the airline industry...worked for one airline that took on far too much work and never had enough aircraft to cope...get one go tech and the whole days' schedule would fall apart.

Low cost travel is great when it works but generally you get what you pay for.

This is slightly off topic. In England now, went to the cinema, and wanted some water.
500ml of water £1.70
750ml of water £2.30

I just laughed

Was planning to fly out of Phuket in february using Air Asia.I went to a travel agency I have done some business with before and asked the lady behind the counter to order a trip with Air Asia, mainly because I saw they have alot of the Air Asia posters on the wall.
"Air Asia" she said "You don`t wanna use them !!"
???
"No good, they always have a lot of delays" she cont..."I you fly out of Phuket you may not reach your connecting flight out of Bangkok in the evening"
Well, paid 1000.baht more and got a flight with Bangkok Air,have used them on my 3 last trips and I`m very pleased with them !!

Plus agents make more on a Bangkok Airways ticket sale than they do on an Air Asia sale.

Just got back to UK after two weeks in Thailand, had 4 Air Asia flights booked:
Bangkok to Phuket, left on time
Phuket to Bangkok, 30 min delay
Bangkok to Chiang Mai, cancelled
Chiang Rai to Bangkok, left on time
For Chiang Mai Air Asia transferred us to a 1 2 Go flight which left on time, plenty of leg room on the plane too.

Only flown with them once (BKK-PHK) without any real trouble. Flight was delayed by about an hour, but for a 6pm departure that's no different to flights here in Australia.

What is the surcharge once you go over 15kg? Does anyone have those details?

According to their website, excess baggage is charged at 160baht per kg.

Well I had 23kgs checking in with AirAsia and the girl at the counter gave me a little ticking off, Cant remember exactly what she said to me but it was something like "You 8kg over, Not good, Only 15kg you very bold boy (she looked angry as hell)" and I just said ohh im very sorry, I didnt know and smiled, After a couple of seconds she smiled back and I got charged nothing

Guess I was lucky, Also if you are over its always good to check in first as sometimes they turn a blind eye to excess weight, Its always worked for me, Actually I dont think I have ever flown with my bags under weight, Ive always been over but was never charged a penny.......Yet

Normally if I know I am over, here is a small trick I use.

The mechanism they use to weigh your baggage has a little gap under it. I just stick my foot under it, and push the scale up, so the baggage weighs less. I think I used my foot last time on 1-2-fly and I took off about 10kilos

This doesn't work for international in BKK as there is no where to slide your foot under, but it works in the UK as well.

I would have fallen in love at that point.
