another scenario

always wondered this one

say I`m flying HKT - BKK, then BKK - Manc
then my HKT - BKK is cancelled, delayed or whatever so I miss my connection.

will they try and get me on the next flight for free, or do I have to fork out for a new ticket?

You shouldn't have to pay for a new ticket if your connecting flight is delayed or cancelled. They should try to get you on the next available flight, sometimes with another carrier who is a partner.

If you are flying with the same company/alliance from HKT to UK they will put you on another flight.
I doubt you will have that service if you fly Air Asia or whatsoever from HKT to BKK

Cool Same company

As long as you are with the same airline eg Thai you should be OK.

There have been a lot of negative posts about the low cost carriers and their record of making international flight departures.

always give yourself some extra time to make your flights. When I flew home I was on Silk Air Phuket to Singapore and then Singapore Airlines Singapore to LA. Silk is owned by Singapore so I was covered if they did not get me to Singapore in time, they would have put me up in a hotel and maybe given me a meal voucher. But if I had flown on another airlines that did not have an agreement with Singapore and it was a eperate ticket than I am SOL.

You have to be careful, especially for you guys who buy a ticket to Bangkok and then buy your internal around LOS tickets later.

There alot of misconception about the idea of airlines assisting you in the event of a missed connection, even if the 2 flights involved are with the same airline. No airline is under any responsiblity to assist you if you are delayed for whatever reason and miss your connection. Especially if the delay was not due to any fault of the airline, like in weather. An airline is quite within its rights to just say, "bad luck"!!

However, airlines do assist passengers where a delayed flight has resulted in a missed connection, as an act of good faith and to avoid bad publicity. Different IATA areas of the world do have different rules governing this, and I believe that the EU has just changed the rules here.

Where you are travelling on an LCC flight, and your delayed, basically forget about any assistance from the onward carrier. Again the onward carrier may assist, based on the good faith and avoiding bad publicity lines.
